Overcast here in Edinburgh with the wind picking up as well.

As a result of there being too much cloud and too much wind around, the temperatures are refusing to drop and in fact, they have actually gone up a bit over the last few hours.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 11.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so that ultimate winter nightmare of double figures nighttime temperatures has struck once again at all three of my local stations.

In my French place near Macon. Official overnight low there was 4C but here it was zero on the hilltop and -5C down in the valley. Whole landscape frost-grey with wisps of mist.

Now warming quickly in beautiful sunshine. Max later is due to be 17C. Lovely.

The wind has died down here in Edinburgh, the skies are now much clearer and the Sun is shining although there is now a thickening veil of cloud moving in from the west.

With the temperatures refusing to drop throughout last night, last night's overnight minimum temperature was achieved very early during yesterday evening and was 8.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so our frost-free hell continues.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 10.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Was sunnier this morning but no impact on the overnight temperatures which sunk no lower than a dire 6.7C. Hasn't dropped below 4C since Tuesday

Now just another day of mild gunk with a thickening area of cloud moving up from the south. As usual these days it's clearer to the north and cloudier to the south when it always used to be the other way round. Temp 7.7C.

Sick to death of this bland and boring weather. It does not feel remotely springlike and nor should it since this is supposed to be winter. Even when there has been sun the wind prevents it from feeling warm. Just a standard tedious winter mild spell

Fair with hazy sun and continuing dry. The current 11.5 c & 75% h felt pleasantly mild in light winds when I popped out to get the papers (only needed a cardie and jogging bottoms on).

The delightfully benign theme continues, if I can't have any icy snowy weather then this is the next best thing for this time of year.

There's a lot more cloud around now with even a spot or two of light rain and drizzle in the air, but some brighter spells are still managing to be seen at times and so, a total of 2.5 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

The wind has also picked up once again, and was gusting up to 34.2mph from the south at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 12 noon.

However, the temperature at 12 noon was 10.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There was a cloudy period during the middle of the day, but it wasn't long afterwards that the skies cleared once again to leave us with a sunny afternoon so in the end, a total of 5.8 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As I write, we have a mixture of some cloud with some clear breaks in amongst that, but it is also windy with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank gusting up to 33.6mph from the SSW at 8pm this evening.

Today's maximum temperature was 12.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 9.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
