After a tiny cool down early next week, back end of the week is looking particularly interesting. The GFS 06z has 22C+ in central France and 16-17C (which could easily go a few degrees higher in the sun) next weekend.

It's been another mild day here in Edinburgh, but today hasn't broken any records here for that and although the temperatures have still reached double figures at all three of my local stations during today, it hasn't been quite as mild here today as what it has been recently.

Today's maximum temperature here was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Looks like Bala in Wales is today's new  hotspot 16.1c . Can we hit 17c tomorrow?

Very warm ECM means tonight days 8,9 and 10 would suggest 20c is on the cards. Could be a record breaking February

Think 'heat' is a bit of an exaggeration. Only 9 C in the eastern Lakes and 8 or 9 C around the Borders! Edinburgh reached 10 C

Very rare to see a heat watch thread in a winter month esp during Feb but here we go...!

It was 14c here in Exeter around 12-1pm but interestingly it did turn cooler and quickly - Because as soon as you're in the shade it felt cold in fact you would feel cold without a jacket. But rapid temp rise from a low of 2c with fog to +14c with sun, then a rapid drop to 10c by 4pm and 6c by 8pm! - Now it's midnight and we are back down to 3c and falling rapidly here in Exeter! This sort of weather is more typical of late March early April (Spring) than middle of Feb. - It's so rare to see such wild swing in temperatures from low single figures to mid teens in the space of a few hours esp in a winter month!!

At least there is no cloud cover and it isn't the mild, dank, misty, drizzly overcast boring type weather! If it was  overcast and gloomy mild drizzle with temps of 14c by day and 11 or 12c by night I would be furious! - That's the worse sort of weather!

I think we can all expect the same...in coming days and some records to be broken - somewhere will see records broken but not in England - i doubt we will beat the all time high which was back 21 years ago today in Feb 1998 in Greenwich of +19.1c. But either way it has been the warmest Valentines day in 21 years!

PS - Nice to see your thoughts being published in the Daily Mirror Brian Gaze?

 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/uk-weather-forecast-steamy-valentines-13997708

“High pressure has the UK under a southerly flow of warm air pulled up from north Africa.

“17C could be seen by Friday, with a lot of dry and very mild springlike weather into next week.”

Ridiculous title. Heat in February?

February record here is 17.9C recorded all the way back in 1897 - yes 122 years ago - just a month after the city was buried by one of the severest snowstorms on record. Oh for those interesting days of extremes to return.

Highest max so far this month is 12.1C which is standard for February. Hasn't reached 15C in February here since 2012 which is the longest gap since 1977-84 despite the past nine years seeing virtually zero cold or snow in February. Another example of the 'blandification' of the climate with extremes squeezed at both ends.

Today has been an insanely mild day here in Edinburgh with the temperature reaching 14.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (which makes today, our warmest day of this so-called "winter" so far, and the warmest day of this year so far) after this same morning had started with an official air frost and a temperature of -1.6°C at that same station at 8am this morning.

It's not very often that we get a diurnal temperature range which is anything like as big as that, which we have experienced today. Of course, I still don't expect today's maximum temperature to be an actual record for here. However, we are technically speaking, still supposed to be in our winter (albeit, at the end of our winter) and yet we have had cooler days in the middle of summer before, than what we have experienced here today which is makes today even more insane.

Those daily temp records are fascinating. I'd forgotten how remarkably mild/warm Feb 1998 was, and in the first half of the month too! Remarkable.
