Heaviest radar returns right over my neck of the woods, the M3 towards Basingstoke, and I'm sat in London missing out!

stuck north if Winchester for ages...everyone sent home early and we got nothing, today nothing forecast and it’s total chaos...another met office shocker!

Just measured a gnats under 15CM here.  A reasonable  proportion  of that has fallen late afternoon / early evening, which wasn't really forecast.  Still snowing now !

A colleague of mine left the office at 16:30. Made it as far as Basingstoke and is now stranged for the night with no way to get back to Winchester. He is gutted as he had family over from Wales to watch the rugby

After a slow thaw today, it's all back to white

Decent snowfall for the last couple hours but it's quite wet snow so only given a recoat, can't complain as missed most of yesterday's action.

Max in Watford was 11cm

Basingstoke probably has something approaching 23cm now. The Mendips, however, are probably where the snow is deepest, something approaching a foot I would say.

Heavy snow shower coming through here.   Settling on all surfaces.

The way it's been coming down, it ought to be a foot deep, but it's not. I think it must be melting a bit as it lies. Anywhere with a bit of altitude near here is going to be completely mullered.

Rain this afternoon turned to snow this evening, but as far as I can make out from indoors it hasn't amounted to more than a thin coverage on the grass and on parked cars. I imagine it could be very icy in the morning.

The reason it's a little uneven is down to some thaw in the sunnier spots earlier.

What an evening. Still snowing heavily here as well. No idea how much we have had but I don't think it is 25cm as suggested by someone earlier. At least not on the ground.  

My rain gauge currently says 14.6mm. There may be some snow still in the gauge as the heater probably can't keep up. But that would at least suggest we probably have had about 15cm.

Give the reports on here and on the AA app I was expecting gridlock when I arrived back at Basingstoke station earlier. Actually it was not too bad so decided to try and drive home rather than take the very long walk. Got as far as the Chineham business park but the hill into Chineham was blocked as it usually is in these conditions. Managed to park up in the business park and walk from there, but not before losing the rear end and ending up sideways and just missing a parked car.

These conditions are identical to what we had I think in December 2008.

Finally turned to full on, moderate to heavy snow at 19:30ish, it's still moderate to heavy, at times now. We finally have more of a coating than a dusting, probably measuring up to 1.5cm. Will go out soon to take some pics
