Today is a very important day from a Scottish perspective as the night which follows on from that, will be Burns Night when I will be celebrating with my usual haggis, turnip and neaps.

Anyway, normal service for this winter so far has now been resumed to a certain extent as it is rather damp and overcast with the temperatures refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

In the end though, a total of 0.4 mm of rain fell during yesterday at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, but with nothing at all in the way of rainfall being recorded for yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 2.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today has brought a return to the same old borefest which we have had to endure throughout this so-called "winter" as our snow-free hell goes on.

In addition to that, today has also been a lot milder than of late after the temperatures shot up during the early hours of the morning. That brought back into that ultimate nightmare scenario for this time the year, of double figures temperatures and to make matters even worse, the temperature is now refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud and far too much wind around.

In the end, a total of just 36 minutes of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank and so, a total of at least 2.7 hours of sunshine is still needed during the last 6 days of this month in order for this month to then go down as being sunnier than average overall.

At the moment, it is very windy with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank gusting up to 34.2mph from the WSW as at 8pm this evening.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 1.7° at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature so far is 10.6° at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 9.9° at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
