After a bright frosty start, it is now dull & overcast with light spitty cold rain. 2.9 c & 86% h but winds are dead calm so I was able to work up a sweat while digging the back yard (took me back to my old council gardening days).

This afternoon was much brighter than this morning and in the end, a total of 1.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This now leaves us needing a total of at least 3.3 hours of sunshine between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to down as being sunnier than average overall.

In the end, today wasn't the least bit cold for this time of the year and although the pavements did start to freeze over as the temperatures started to drop after sunset, that is not likely to happen for long as it has now started to cloud over from the west once again with the latest forecasts being for normal service for this winter to be resumed later on tonight with a return to milder temperatures.

With that in mind, I will only state what today's maximum temperature has been so far because once that milder air arrive, the temperature might then rise to above that maximum value before midnight.

Anyway, that maximum temperature so far is 4.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 2.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Got down to -5.6C last night. The band of broken up ppn turned up this morning. A few flakes of sleet before a cold and cloudy day with the max around 1.8C.

Still cloudy with a misty look and the car says 1C.

Overcast, misty and rather damp now with light drizzle at times, although this hasn't been enough to register as actual rainfall. However, the temperatures are already refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud and I will only expect that to get worse over time as that milder air moves in (this makes it hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago that we were supposedly going to be entering into a spell of really cold easterly winds around now according to the models, so much for that!!).

In the meantime, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 1.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

No sign of the sun breaking through.  A frosty night followed by cloud coming over at daybreak without a change in the air usually results in a pretty cold day.
