I know that I'm slightly early with starting this thread, but I will be busy at midnight compiling all of the various statistics for various other threads on this forum and in any case, I'm not expecting anyone to be reporting any snow in there area during the next half an hour or so.

Anyway, the purpose of this thread in line with other previous winters is for anyone to post any snow reports and photos in their area, or very close to their area during the month of December, the first month of the meteorological winter. This is the first such thread for this winter, and I will add that this thread is only for actual snow reports and photos whereas there is already a separate thread for discussing any snow potential in terms of the model output.

We have ice pellets here now, only light but you can hear them. Light precipitation is breaking out ahead of the main area

Think I should class this as graupel, it's floating down and is white where it's settled on the frost. Very light and sporadic though

We now have flat hard white star shapes coming down. Not sure whether this is classed as snow or snow pellets? Any thoughts?

I did notice that even here in the north of Edinburgh, the rain had turned to sleet and wet snow for a while, as there was a very slight slushy deposit on the roads and pavements when I looked out, and there was a bit of sleet falling then. This happened despite the fact the dew points have now risen above freezing with the temperature going up slightly as well, so that could only really have happened as a result of evaporative cooling.

Having said that though, all of that is now in the process of clearing away to the north.

When I first started this thread on the first day of this month, I was hoping that there would a thread of this type, for every month of this winter just as there was last winter. However, this thread has been a lot quieter than what I had expected it to be, due to the fact that there has been so little snow around during this winter so far (especially in comparison to last winter), for anyone to actually be reporting (in fact, there has been nothing at all to report here since Storm Deirdre made its presence felt in the middle of this month.

Because of that, I have decided to extend this thread out across the whole winter so that it then doesn't get lost in that great unknown which is known as cyberspace. That means that if anyone wishes to report any snow at all in their area during January or February, this is still the very place to report that. Since we couldn't possibly have had a worst start to this so-called "winter" in that regard, things can surely only get better from here, so lets hope that the currently ongoing SSW event delivers the goods so that we get more snow, with this thread then becoming much busier as a result.

The only snow we have had here just to the NE of Glasgow this winter thus far was a little bit of wet stuff on the back of Storm Deirdre on the night of Saturday 15th December. Other than that- zilch.

Here we are, it's not been used much but as snow is falling now in Scotland we should hopefully be able to use it 👍

Yes the snow level is steadily dropping from the north now. Hopefully there will still be some precipitation around here when the cold air moves in.

Gone a bit fizzly here too. I suspect 4 miles out the road it’s gone white already.

Temp dropping steadily towards 1C. I’d hope for some accumulation from midnight onwards.
