I like to look at the past CET's, partly to see what the reality was of some of the years we all remember well and to see where the potential upcoming spell might sit in the records, appreciate it's not all about the temperature but it's a good guide.
Generally we look at the record books on the basis of the calendar months, so years like feb 86/ dec 10 stick out but whatever may come over the next few weeks is likely to span Jan and Feb so have had a look at the CETs for the 2nd Half of Jan/last 10 days/last 7 days/ last half Jan/first half Feb and the first half Feb.
Where do people think the upcoming spell will sit/what do you hope for?
Fascinating stuff, but I find that the format makes it a little hard to follow. Four separate tables might have been clearer.
Good work SSM.
It's funny that 2012 and 1956 both have similar 2nd half Jan/ first half Feb and also first half Feb alone.
Odd thing is, I wasn't alive in 1956 but Feb 56 sticks in my mind. Feb 2012- can't remember a thing about it.

Personally I remember it quite well actually. And the March that followed it too was quite something.

was recorded by well known local (to where I live) weatherman Ian Currie. On the morning of the 11th Feb we went for a walk over the surrey hills and it was bitter, but beautiful as it was so cold the air was clear and there was a lovely alpinesque glow! Great stuff 😎
Loving the weather whatever it brings, snow, rain, wind, sun, heat, all great!
Now March I do remember, Scott. We had a week hereabouts with maxima >19C- can't find anything in the local record to quite match it!
May was also good second half, but I'm right OT now.
