Overcast with the temperatures still refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around (in fact, that temperatures have once again, gone up slightly during the last hour or so).

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 4.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which for all three of my local stations, is the same as yesterday's maximum temperature.

Whilst nearly everybody else appears to be getting a frost just now, we still have that same old story yet again here in Edinburgh of a continuation of that same old frost-free hell which we have been experiencing for most of this so-called "winter".

Once again, today has started off on a dull, depressing and soul destroying note with yet more constant grey skies and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather, actually happening.

In addition to that, the temperature have continued to go up a bit during the early hours of this morning which means that the temperature at 8am this morning was now up to 6.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

So much for it turning cold and frosty. 2019 has got off to a truly awful start with this excrutiating anticyclonic gloom. Last weeks mild weather was better. At least we saw the sun.

Still no change here in Edinburgh and with the latest permacast hell now into its second day, nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 6.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Bright with plenty of hazy winter sunshine via variable high cloud.

Feeling a bit more seasonal at 4.3 c & 74% h under light N wind from a minimum of 1.7 c at 8.30 am, although no frost has been observed at least here on the coastal edge (ironically today's max is 4.6 c at 12 am last night).

Literally 15 minutes ago I was sprayed with grit from a Hampshire highways gritter, on a main road that's busy with traffic most of the night. There's no moisture on the road, and not much in the air (DP below 0) so I doubt if there'll be anything to slip on tomorrow. But, some threshold trigger has been pulled somewhere and the gritters are out. Perhaps the humidity is expected to rise and fog is expected.

After yet another dull and boring overcast nothingness, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that we have now had two back to back completely sunless days to start off 2019 with and so, today is our second sunless day of this month, our second sunless day of this year and our 14th sunless day of this so-called "winter".

Today's maximum temperature was 7.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Hovering around 2-3 degC today and looking very grey, almost like potential snow conditions - tho current forecasts suggest mid to late January for that. The two chaps working on the roof were glad to get to the end of the day!

BBC Scotland weather forecaster and presenter Anne Lundon said: "Ice circles are slowly rotating discs of ice that look almost like frozen lily pads.

"They aren't all that common in Scotland - they are most frequently observed in colder climates.

"I suspect the temperature drop in Braemar would have had something to do with this."

Wow, who would have thought it.

Nothing has changed here in terms of our weather for the last two days, and the January borefest and permacast hell goes on.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 5.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
