Here in Scotland, New Year's Eve is known instead as Hogmanay, but since this is a UK wide forum rather than a Scottish one, I have titled this thread as it is in order to satisfy all of its English members and those who don't live in or come from Scotland.

Anyway, that is only a very minor point and back on topic, it is still cloudy here in Edinburgh with the temperatures still refusing to drop due to there being too much cloud around, as well as a bit too much wind.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Another day, same old borefest with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 9.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

8.2C here, dry and windy but very gloomy.

The general dryness is becoming noteworthy, although land surface is rather sticky, autumn rains have still not fully penetrated to any depth, and by February evaporation becomes more significant.

The odd thing is the annual total is not especially low at about -50mm, (2013 was more like -150mm) it depends a lot on when rain falls and whether it comes as heavy bursts which run off, or prolonged dribbling which soaks in.

The clouds have broken up a bit more as this morning has gone on, and that has allowed the Sun to come out. However, nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 10.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The final afternoon of 2018 brought some sunshine earlier on and in the end, a total of 1.2 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, it is also very windy with maximum wind gusts during this afternoon of up to 36.7mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

It has also turned much cloudier once again which means that the temperatures will no doubt, be refusing to drop during tonight as usual due to there being too much cloud and far too much wind around.

Today's maximum temperature was 10.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse now, as far as this complete non-event which is known as our "winter" is concerned.

It is still overcast and windy with the wind at 8pm this evening still gusting up to 35.4mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

In response to that, the temperatures are not only refusing to drop, but that have actually gone up a bit over the last hour or so which now means that they have now gone above today's earlier reported maximum temperatures which themselves, were already very mild for this time of year.

This means that the temperature at 8pm this evening was now up to 10.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Since this will be my last post on this forum for 2018, I hope that you all enjoy the night ahead and get home safely after the bells if you are out and about at any celebrations, whether that be a major celebration such as our big parties here in Edinburgh, or a more local private house party or social event.

In the meantime, I will speak to you all again in 2019.
