After yet another frost-free horror show, we are now back to the usual borefest here in Hawick with yet more constant grey skies and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening.

Since I will be travelling back up to Edinburgh later on today, this means I have now gone through the whole of my Scottish Borders break without waking up to even a single frost, let alone seen any snow and that is in complete contrast to last year when the snow which was around last year on Boxing Day was still around when I returned home.

Currently, it is around 9°C here in Hawick.

Rather overcast with nebulous looking skies, but at least it is "dry" with dead calm winds even though the 91% h is keeping the clamminess going.

Home location: Folkestone Harbour.

Overcast and damp again, with occasional very light drizzle.

Temp 10C

RH 88%

Struggled to open the outhouse door this morning as the dampness has swelled the door, making it stick.

Not long after my last post on this thread, the Sun came out in Hawick with the clouds beginning to break up. There was a light spot of rain in the air when I left Hawick to return to Edinburgh, but the trip back up here to Edinburgh where I am now was greeted with blue skies and plenty of sunshine. In the end, this resulted in 3.1 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

The only thing which I will add to that is that I came through the Borders Hills on the way home, and it was sad to see these hills looking so green at this time of year with not even a single bit of snow to be seen on them, which is in complete contrast to this time last year when there was plenty of snow and ice around even here in Edinburgh to greet my return home (that just shows how much of a complete non-event this so-called "winter" has been so far, compared to last winter).

However, I am back in my usual place here in Edinburgh once again and am now looking forward to returning to my usual frequency of posting on this forum from now on as a result.

Today's maximum temperature was 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

I didn't wake up to a frost on any occasion when I was in the Scottish Borders, but I do know that there was one frosty morning here in Edinburgh during that time on Christmas Eve. Indeed, the temperatures are dropping away under clear skies now that the Sun has gone down. Now that I am back home though, I can probably be well assured that there will no frost here tonight, this time which is just typical of my luck.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 7.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Turning into 1988/89 now. Been like March all week with mild, sunny conditions. Max 9.7C.

Not at all what's desired for the festive break. Just one subzero reading in 18 days now and that was gone by dawn leaving no sign of frost

Perhaps rather unsurprisingly, it has clouded over once again and as a result of that, the temperatures are now yet again, refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 6.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
