Despite the fact that the winter solstice was only three days ago,, Edinburgh Gogarbank had its joint sunniest day of the winter so far with a total of 4.9 hours of sunshine being recorded for today in the end.
Today was also the coldest day of the winter so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh with a maximum temperature of just 0.9°C.
Clear skies. High 4.4c and frost on the grass and ice on the parts of the pavements all day.

Looks like the moisture is being held further west compared to some of models' predictions, so fog not forming here just yet.

Clear skies and 0c here with a frost forming late (rather than early). Looks like the moisture is being held further west compared to some of models' predictions, so fog not forming here just yet.
A nice seasonal feel to the weather here tonight.
There's a heavy white frost on the ground outside.
It is slightly misty though the stars are clearly visible.
The air temp is -2C which is much lower than the MetO forecast.

The grass in the shade stayed frosty all day and the temp has dropped again now, so everywhere’s frosty and it’s slightly misty!

I noticed it was feeling a bit stuffy in the house and yet the radiators are quite cold to the touch (I set the thermostat at 21 c), so I looked at the station to see it showing 8.5 c & 80% h outside, a rise from 4 c three hours ago. Seems winds coming onshore from what is still a relatively warm Strait of Dover is what keeping it fairly mild at this end. Still clear with broken cloud, though.
Clear -2C.

Finally, I get to witness an official air frost being recorded here in the Scottish Borders, as it is cold, clear and frosty with the temperature already down to -2°C here in Hawick.Having said that though, it isn't actually as cold here as it is back in Edinburgh where the temperature at 10pm tonight was -4°C at Edinburgh Airport and -3.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where that already makes tonight the coldest night of the winter so far.
Colder than most forecasts. Including nowcasts.
