After the tepid excitement of yesterday evening's cold front, the temperature fell much more slowly overnight. It's now 5.3C, cloudy, with a light NW'ly breeze.

In theory yesterday's rain should have been the last for quite some time!

This morning here in Hawick is therefore, just yet another continuation of the usual borefest with yet more constant grey skies, and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening.

According to Google, the temperature is around 2°C here in Hawick just now.

Trust Edinburgh to get a frost when I'm not even there and yet, it is usually always a different story when I am there (the fact that there's no frost here makes that worse).

It's as if the boring and uninteresting weather always wants to follow me around wherever I go.

You might have been stuck in the cloudbank anyways :-)

A sunny and calm day.

The cloud has started to break up a bit more more now here in Hawick, and the Sun has just come out.

The temperature is now around 3°C here in Hawick.

Now 3.8c and still frosty.

According to the data at WeatherCast and my own records, last night was the coldest night of this winter so far with an official air frost being recorded at all three of my local stations up there.

Last night's minimum temperature was -3.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -4°C at Edinburgh Airport and -3.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

I am also noticing that it is still technically possible for an official ice day to be recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as I write, as the temperature at 12 noon was still down down at -0.7°C

Down here, the earlier cloud cover has all gone and it is now completely sunny with a temperature of 4°C which isn't even all that cold for this time of the year.

I have also noticed that a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon. This means that despite all of those completely sunless days up there, this month will now go down as being sunnier than average overall, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month as the total amount of sunshine at that station so far during this month is already more than the 1981--2010 average.

No official ice day in Edinburgh after all, as the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh went up to 0.7°C at 1pm this afternoon..

Fair with sunshine and broken high cloud. The 9.7 c felt mild in the sun and light wind.

This weather is more suited for the Easter bank holiday, never mind Christmas . . . but I don't mind as it is nice at the moment.

After a murky start it has cleared to leave a lovely sunny day and at 6C it feels quite seasonal.

However, to my north I can see a broad band of that low cloud and mist lurking. I hope it stays away at least until after sunset.
