There's now more cloud around than what there was a few hours ago and because of that, the temperatures are once again, refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 4.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Very windy from the WNW gusting to 60mph

Still mild at 10.2c with a thin layer of hazy SC scuttling across the sky. Dry and with this wind the surfaces are also drying out.

The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh this morning, but although the skies are much clearer now, too much cloud during the night has once again prevented us from getting any kind of frost.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 2.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9am this morning was 3.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This morning has brought varying amounts of cloud to this part of the world and after becoming much cloudier for a while during this morning, it has now become much sunnier once again with a total of 42 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 5.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

After a rather cloudy morning with one or two passing showers, skies are clearing up now along with the wind calming down so it's a case of making the most of the sunshine before setting behind the built up hilly area in about an hours time.

It suddenly became a lot cloudier not long after I submitted my last post on this thread and in the end, a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

In fact, there was even a nearby shower of rain just a short while ago which passed just to the north of here without quite managing to reach us here in Edinburgh. The result of this is there was no recorded rainfall from that at any of my local stations and we remain on course for today to be only our first completely dry day since 17 November 2018 if it stays dry between now and midnight.

The downside is there is still a lot of cloud around and unless we get rid of that, the temperatures will no doubt be refusing to drop due to there being too much cloud, thus depriving us of a frost yet again.

Today's maximum temperature was 6.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 4.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Showers of rain 8.5c now.

Was walking along Exeter Quay earlier and realised the footpath to wooden bridge was flooded over so had to take other route- This is the first time I have seen the water levels this high since Jan 2018 - earlier this year., - Just shows! - Very swollen - I have seen it worse though in 2014/15!! - All this is coming from Exmoor!! More rain is forecast too! Autumn has arrived 2 months too late this year ha!

Variable amounts of cloud are resulting in a lot of variations in when the temperatures drop under clear skies, and when they refuse to drop as a result of there being too much cloud. In any case though, we are now just four hours away from achieving our first completely dry day since 17 November as at 8pm this evening and it looks as though this should now happen without any further complications.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 3.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

We were out in Cheshire and got stuck under a streamer from a NWly, which gave about an hour of cold rain. Lucking at the radar at the time, I was cursing our bad luck
