Light rain and mild for several hours but a sudden change just now with much stronger wind and notable drop in temperature - brightening sky too.

The rain from earlier on has cleared way, but it remains overcast and very windy with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning of up to 36.7mph from the WSW.

As a result of that earlier rainfall, a total of 2.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 2.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will go down as an official rain day at both of those stations as our increasingly long run of days without it being completely dry goes on.

After a mild night, the temperatures are still dropping and so, the temperature at 8am this morning was 7.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Low unbroken cloud, stiff W wind, raining steadily.

11.9*C after a maximum (sic) of 13.0*C at 3am.

92%RH; 998.9mb falling.

Looking at the radar, this band of rain appears to be the most prolonged rainfall we've had in this part of the country all year - as Brian G said in the MO thread, just what we need to top up the reservoirs.  And it's still gloomy...

Dull, wet and rather windy this morning, but will on the mild side at 12 c dead on.

Hopefully I may get lucky with seeing some brightness this afternoon as the back edge to this cloud and rain turn up while there are still some daylight left.

7.8 mm so far here at Folkestone, but not that much in the way of drama, just yer actual typically wet 'n' breezy Autumn's day as the back edge squall line broke up before getting here.

We are now losing the mildness at 9.8 c but still cloudy.

This afternoon was much sunnier until it became cloudier later on and in the end, a total of 3.2 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

There was a shower of rain during the latter part of this afternoon, but this delivered nothing in the way of actual measurable rainfall. However, it has just started raining here as I write, as a larger area of rain heads in this direction, although that is breaking up a bit as it reaches us.

It is still very windy though with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank now up to 41.6mph from the WSW as at 4pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature was reached in the early hours of this morning and was 11.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 6.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
