We have had an official air frost at all three of my local stations in the early hours of this morning.

However, there isn't actually any frost around which I can see as some cloud has come in during the early part of the morning. That wouldn't be quite so bad if this at least actually brought some interesting weather (even if that was just in the form of some measurable rainfall, although I would obviously have preferred to see a bit of snow) but instead, all this has done is to bring us back into our usual borefest with nothing actually happening except for the fact that the temperatures have gone up a bit, thus removing that frost which was around.

Just now, there is still a lot of clear sky around which should still allow us to see a bit of sunshine, but there is also a lot more cloud around as well, than what there was at this time during yesterday.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -2.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -4°C at Edinburgh Airport and -1.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 1.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

-1.6C about 4am but more wind towards dawn meant it hovered either side of freezing until 10am, 4.8C now with milky cloud layer arriving fast.

There has been a bit of sunshine during today, but there has also been a lot of cloud with the result that a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm this afternoon.

There was a shower of rain earlier on this morning as well and although this has resulted in a total of just 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm this afternoon along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, this is enough to mean that today is now our 17th day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry. With some more rain in the forecast as well from later on tomorrow in particular, it might be quite a while now before we finally get that elusive first completely dry day since 17 November 2018 as today was probably our best chance for quite a while, of actually getting that.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 1pm this afternoon was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There is still some cloud around, but this afternoon was a bit sunnier than this morning and in the end, a total of 1.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today's maximum temperature was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. I'm hoping that there will be plenty of days ahead during this winter which are much colder than this, with the possibility of even the added bonus of an odd official ice day here and there. Nevertheless, today was the coldest of both this month and this winter so far, and this will do for now.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm was 3.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 2.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Interesting weather day. -2 degrees and freezing fog first thing, sunshine, cloud, then rain showers after dark; on the colder rural stretches, at 3 degrees, the raindrops had splodgy ragged edges. Up to 5 degrees now.

Turned out decent enough today with some winter sunshine and light winds which helped to shift the recent dampness - but then high cloud filled in the sky by 3 pm, but that's when the sun sets at this time of the year anyway. Peaked at 9.9 c at 12 pm from a low of 3.3 at 7.15 am. Currently 9.6 c & 63% h under a light onshore south breeze.
