In the end, a total of 1.4 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, today has been completely dry so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9am this morning but 0.4 mm of rain has been recorded during this morning so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 9am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 50.4 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 134.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 554.8 mm as at 9am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 46.4 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 118.2 mm and the total for this year so far to 542.6 mm as at 9am this morning.

Since there has been more official rain days during this month so far than the 1981-2010 November average at Edinburgh Gogarbank, this month will now go down as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month. This had already become the case at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh a few days ago.

Since there has been more official rain days during this autumn so far than the 1981-2010 Autumn average at Edinburgh Gogarbank, this autumn as a whole will now go down as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

However, this autumn will now go down as being drier than average in terms of the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month are there are no longer enough days left in this month for it to be possible for the number of official rain days during this autumn at that station to match or beat the 1981-2010 Autumn average for there.

In terms of the actual rainfall amounts, this autumn as a whole will now go down as being substantially drier than average at both of those stations with all three autumn months being drier than average at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

a wet month here now up to 122mm and looks as tho another 25mm  possible by end of month. the warm channel at this time of the year contributes to added convection so the south coast usually has a summer minimum and autumn early winter max for rainfall .

In the end, a total of 4.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 3.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, 0.2 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7am this morning along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For both of those stations, this now makes today the 12th day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry and since it is raining once again as I write, those totals which I have reported for today are unlikely to be today;s final totals.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 55.4 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 139.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 559.8 mm as at 7am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 50.0 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 121.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 546.2 mm as at 7am this morning.

This means that at least another 18.4 mm of rain now needs to fall at Edinburgh Gogarbank by the end of tomorrow in order for this month to be wetter then average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

This also means that at least another 12.2 mm of rain now needs to fall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh by the end of tomorrow in order for this month to be wetter then average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

That is unlikely to happen in both cases but with today's outlook in particular looking rather wet, it looks as though this month's final totals might well end up being closer to the 1981-2010 November average in both cases than what it had looked as as though we would be not too long ago.

For both of those stations though, this month will go down as being wetter than average in terms of the number of official rain days as there has been more official rain days during this month than the 1981-2010 November average in both cases (in fact, there has actually been more official rain days during this month at both of those stations, than what there has been during every other month during this year with the exception of January).

In the end, a total of 13.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 12.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This makes yesterday the wettest day of this month at both of those stations and the second wettest day of this autumn at both of those stations. In both cases, yesterday's total took yesterday to within 0.3 mm of being the wettest day of the autumn.

However, today has been completely dry so far at both of those stations as at 8am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 68.2 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 152.2 mm and the total for this year so far to 572.6 mm as at 8am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 61.6 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 133.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 557.8 mm as at 8am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, another 5.5 mm of rain needs to fall between now and midnight in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, and that is unlikely to happen.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, just another 0.6 mm of rain needs to fall between now and midnight in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average according to the actual rainfall amounts. With showers in the forecast, that could happen but in order for that to be the case, those showers which are in the nearby vicinity just now according to the latest rain radar maps need to start actually affecting that particular station, instead of by-passing there altogether as has been happening throughout this morning so far.

For both of those stations, this month will down as being wetter than average according to the number of official rain days and at Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is also true for the autumn as a whole. For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh though, this autumn will go down as being drier than average according to the number of official rain days and for both stations, this autumn will go down as being quite substantially drier than average according to the actual rainfall amounts.

I will give my usual more detailed end of month report here just after midnight, but I can say that at 3pm this afternoon, today's total at Edinburgh Gogarbank was now up to 5.4 mm, leaving us with just another 0.2 mm to go in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts. This means that if we get any more recorded rainfall at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and midnight, this month will be going down as being wetter than average there in terms of the actual rainfall amounts (this month is already wetter than average there in terms of the number of official rain days and today has added yet another official rain day onto that).

Yet just a couple of days ago, this month had been running so much drier than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the actual rainfall amounts that I would probably have been regarded as a complete lunatic even if I had even suggested back then, that this month could end up being wetter than average here, especially with the manner in which all of the other months from May onwards had gone. Yet that is exactly what has just about happened, and that shows us just how thoroughly wet, the latter part of this month in particular, has been in this part of the world.

Even as things stand just now, this month is already the second wettest month of 2018 at Edinburgh Gogarbank with only January being wetter than this month. This means that even if this month's total was to fall short of the 1981-2010 November average, it would actually be a bit unfair to refer to this month as a dry month as a result (as we would normally do in that scenario), especially since there has been two other months during this year (those being March and April) which haven't been as wet as this month, but which have still gone down as being wetter than average overall.

Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that my final total for November comes out as 74.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 67.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 100.4% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 108.2% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during November.

Overall, this shows that in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, November was a wetter than average month at both of those stations. When you balance everything out though, we are more or less say that the rainfall amounts at Edinburgh Gogarbank in particular, were around average during November.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 17 official rain days during November and this shows that it was a wetter than average month there in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 130.8% of the 1981-2010 average. It is a similar story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which had 16 official rain days with that amounting to 142.9% of the 1981-2010 average.

Since we have also just entered a new season, I can now confirm that the final total for the autumn was 158.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 139.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 73.1% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 69.0% of its 1981-2010 average during the autumn.

This means that in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, it was a drier than average autumn overall at both of those stations by quite a substantial amount.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 40 official rain days during the autumn which is 110.5% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 29 official rain days during the autumn which is 97.6% of the 1981-2010 average.

This means that in terms of the number of official rain days, Edinburgh Gogarbank actually had a wetter than average autumn, whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had a slightly drier than average autumn in terms of the number of official rain days.

Over the year so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 578.4 mm of rain which is 76.7% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 563.4 mm of rain during this year so far which is 80.0% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 115 official rain days during this year so far which is 83.8% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 115 official rain days during this year so far which is 92.6% of the 1981-2010 average.
