Not much happening here just now.

The wind has died down for now and the skies are mostly clear except for a veil of high cloud which is obscuring the Moon, and which I am assuming, is marking the forward edge of this morning's weather system (the actual one which is said to be associated with Storm Diana).

In the end, a total of 1.4 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but along with just a measly 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh although this still makes yesterday, the tenth day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry at either of those stations.

The temperatures after rising for a while (which briefly resulted in the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank going above yesterday's reported maximum value for that station) have now levelled off a bit, although they (as forecast) are still refusing to drop.

This means that the temperature at midnight was 6.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Soaking fine rain, windy and 7.4C here.

We had 16.2mm yesterday, taking the month comfortably above average - so any lingering concerns about dryness seem quashed.

There has been some sporadic rain here during the early hours of this morning, but this has only resulted in a rather measly 0.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank and nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Furthermore, we ask to ask the question of where on Earth all of this heavy rain is which we were meant to be getting during today according to the latest BBC forecasts, because I am seeing no signs of that whatsoever on the latest rain radar maps and now, this looks set to go down as yet another drier than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amount (in terms of the number of official rain days though, it is a different story but when it comes to the reservoirs being replenished, it is surely the actual rainfall amounts which matter more than the number of official rain days) in this part of the world as a result, albeit not to the same extent as what we saw during October.

Apart of that, today is generally one massive boring grey and overcast nothingness. At first glance, it doesn't look as though there isn't that much cloud around but in actual fact, all of the gaps in that cloud are still filled in by a veil of higher level cloud.

However, the temperatures are now going up quite quickly and so, the temperature at 9am this morning was 9.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Dull with light rain ("only" 3.0 mm so far today but it looks a lot wetter than that) but the wind seems to be less blowy where perhaps I'm now sheltered by the built up area to my south west.

There has been a few patches of blue sky during this morning and even a little bit of brightness at times. However, all of this is now quickly disappearing and it is now becoming increasingly gloomy over time just now, with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

In addition to that, there is also some slight drizzle beginning to be felt in the air at times although as yet, that hasn't come to anything so far.

At the same time, the temperatures are continuing to shoot up as everything continues to completely fall apart from a cold perspective with our winter already going down the toilet pan before it has even officially started.

As a result of that, the temperature at 12 noon was now up to 12.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, Storm Diana is packing quite a punch just now. Due to various commitments, I have had no option other than to be out and about in this weather, but this has been a really horrible day for doing that.

First of all, the very thick cloud cover during this afternoon made things rather dark right away due to the time of year and in the end, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This makes today, the fourth completely sunless day of this month and the sixth sunless day of this autumn.

Technically and mathematically, it is still just possible for this month to be sunnier than average overall even at this very late stage of the month with just two days to go. In order for that to happen though, those last two days of this month now have to be virtually completely sunny and with more rain forecast for tomorrow in particular, that is very unlikely to happen. Because of that, we can more or less safely say now that this month will now go down as being duller than average overall.

In addition to the cloud though, there is the wind. It is very windy here just now and at 4pm this afternoon, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was gusting up to 43.5mph from the south.

At the same time, it is also raining here in Edinburgh as I write. That rain was light and sporadic to begin with, but those bursts of rain have got heavier as the afternoon has gone on. The result of this is that a total of 2.4 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon along with 1.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

However, today's maximum temperature was 14.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 13.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so today has been an almost ridiculously mild day for this time of year which has shown us a few shades of December 2015.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 12.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

No change whatsoever from the last 10 days. More mild, gloomy, wet and depressing easterly torture.

An absolutely ridiculously awful 2.4 hours sun in the past 10 days and 53.6mm of rain with zero dry days. Average diurnal range of 2C.

This will long be remembered as one of the worst spells of weather I have ever endured.

Still raining here in Edinburgh as I write, and still very windy with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm now getting up to 47.2mph from the SW.

At the same time, all of this wet weather has now increased today's rainfall total so far to 4.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 3.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8pm this evening.

It has cooled down a bit from earlier on, but it is still very mild for the time of year and the temperature at 8pm this evening was 10.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
