Still rather cloudy with the odd shower continuing to be brought in from off the North Sea on an easterly wind although these don't appear to be as frequent or heavy just now as they were a few hours ago. In the end, a total of 1.4 mm of rain was recorded during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh although given how heavy those showers have been at time and the fact that there was a more prolonged spell of rain during this evening, I still feel convinced that we actually got far more rain during yesterday than what those official figures would suggest.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 3.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Clearer skies during the night have resulted in an official air frost being recorded at Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Gogarbank, but there has also been the odd shower as well which as at 8am this morning, has resulted in 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, but with nothing at all in that department at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This has now taken us into a morning where there is still a lot of cloud around, but also some clear sky in places as well.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -1.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 0.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There is still a lot of cloud around with a few showers, still continuing to be brought in from off the North Sea. So far, a total of half an hour of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

In addition to that, those showers have resulted in a total of 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This now makes today, the ninth day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry here.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Once again, we have had yet another heavy shower of rain during this afternoon and yet, with no further additions to today's official rainfall totals so far as the nearby stations are just not picking up on all of the rain which is falling in this area. How that has happened is completely beyond me though as I have a clear view from my windows towards the exact vicinity of where the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are located and it seems clear to me that this very heavy shower of rain which we had during this afternoon was also falling just as heavily over that part of the city at that time. That tells me that there should at least have been something recorded from that, at that particular station.

Whilst those showers have been around, there has clearly been a lot of cloud and in the end, a total of just 42 minutes of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Once again, this is slightly better than what we had yesterday but we are still going to need to be doing a lot better than that over the last four days of this month if this month is going to end up going down as anything else, other than a duller than average month overall. As things stand, at a total of at least 9.1 hours of sunshine are still needed over those four days in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average and although this is still possible, time is now fast running out for that to happen.

Today's maximum temperature was 5.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 6.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes today, the coldest day of both this month and this autumn so far at all three of my local stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 4.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

EDIT

The missing data for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has now come through for that hour where I noticed that heavy shower of rain over that area. This shows that 0.4 mm of rain was indeed, recorded for there during that hour and so, total's rainfall totals so far as at 4pm this afternoon was 0.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There hasn't been any further additions to today's rainfall totals since my last report, but there is still a lot of cloud around just now. This means that as a result of there being too much cloud around, the temperatures are already refusing to drop and are therefore not all that different just now, to what they were when I posted my last report on here at just after 4pm this afternoon.

This means that the temperature at 8pm this afternoon was 4.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
