There has been the odd clear spell which has allowed the temperatures to drop away for a while. However, the skies are still generally cloudy which means that for most of the time, the temperatures are refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

In the end, a total of just 0.2 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 4.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

If anyone wonders why I keep on referring to this part of the world as the most boring part of the UK when it comes to our weather, this morning has given us the perfect example of why this is the case because although there is some blue sky to my north, there is also still a lot of cloud around with nothing even remotely interesting actually happening.

Richard from Aberdeen occasionally refers to his part of the world as being boring when it comes to his local weather conditions, but he at least got to see some rain yesterday and I would much rather have that here just to show that something is actually happening, rather than that boring grey nothingness which we are experiencing just now. If we did get some rain, this would at least serve quite a useful purpose as well because although we can easily go into a debate about how much such rainfall is actually needed, the fact still remains that we are still in quite a big rainfall deficit which has built up over several months during this year, and which is still not being made up.

This boring grey nothingness which were experiencing just now on the other hand has done nothing other than preventing us yet again from getting a frost, and actually serves no useful purpose whatsoever. Yet, that is what we are having to endure at the moment.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 2.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 4.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Dull and murky, also damp with 1.6 mm of rain so far today. 8.1 c & 93% h but at least winds are being light.

Yesterday was actually quite decent . . . sadly unlikely to be today. A good excuse for schlepping around in my hobby room and not feel guilty.

It looks as though the weather gods have read my last post on this thread and decided to make things a bit less boring after that.

There has been some blue sky around at times and during the latter part of this morning, I even managed to witness the first appearance of the Sun in this part of the world for three days. Nevertheless, there is also still a lot of cloud around and at 12 noon, there was still nothing in the way of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

In addition to that though, we have also seen some showers start to move in this direction from in off the North Sea which have now all of a sudden, resulted in a total of 1.8 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore go down as an official rain day as a result) as at 12 noon along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This is nowhere near the amount which Richard from Aberdeen reported for his area for yesterday (which was above anything which we have had here during this month so far), but this does mean that today is now the seventh day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry in this part of the world.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 6.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 7.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Another awful day though nowhere near as vile as most of the week. Wind has switched to NW so less gloomy but still little more than a few breaks giving a total of 0.3hrs and taking the total for the past 6 days to exactly one hour

Sporadic rain totalling 1.6mm and tripe temperatures once again with a min of 4.3C and max of 5.8C

It would have been a bit unfair if today had ended up being yet another sunless day, given that the Sun did briefly come out during the latter part of this morning. That was indeed, reflected quite well in the end as a total of 12 minutes of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, that still leaves us needing a minimum total of 10.3 hours of sunshine between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank. There are now 6 days left for that to happen so this means that we now need to be averaging at least 1.8 hours of sunshine per day over that time in order for that to happen.

However, we have only been averaging 1.3 hours of sunshine per day over the last week with most of that occurring on 18 November 2018. As things stand, that is not enough for this month to be sunnier than overall and unless we start to see more in the way of sunshine than what we are seeing just now, this month will instead be going down as a duller than average month at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

In order to get a sunnier than average month, we need to get back to what was happening before this latest easterly air stream set in because at that time, those better sunshine totals were coming much more easily. However, the forecast is for us to go back to that sort of pattern from the middle of next week, and that is why I am still confident that this month will still end up being sunnier than average in the end.

Anyway, there has also been some further showers during this afternoon which have increased today's rainfall totals so far at 2.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 2.0 mm the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 4pm this afternoon. This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations which in turn, confirms that this month will now go down as being wetter than average at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh in terms of the number of official rain days regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month, as the number of official rain days that there has been at that station so far during this month is now more than the 1981-2010 November average for there.

Today's maximum temperature was 7.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 5.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Looks like our weather has now gone back to being its usual boring self in this part of the world.

There is still a lot of cloud around but despite the continued presence of some nearby showers on the latest rain radar maps, there hasn't been an change to today's rainfall totals so far since my last report here. There is also more of a breeze around as well which means that the temperatures are not dropping very quickly just now.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 5.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
