Showers are continuing to be brought in off the North Sea and although we have actually ended up with very few of them during the evening and night so far, they have started to become more frequent once again and it is raining just now as I write.

In the end, a total of 6.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, thus making yesterday the second wettest day of this month so far at both of those stations.

It is still very windy just now and although it's not quite as windy as what it was earlier on, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was still gusting up to 31.1mph from the ENE at midnight.

The temperatures are still refusing to drop as well and in fact, they have actually gone up a bit during the last few hours with the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh now even higher than yesterday's reported maximum temperature at that station as a result. This shows just what a complete and utter joke, this lame and pathetic attempt at an easterly has become in this part of the world because now, I have even witnessed a number of zonal westerly patterns in recent times where the temperature at night has also refused to drop, but which haven't even been as bad as this.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was now back up to 7.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This of course, is the exact opposite scenario to what we we tend to see at some time around May when those same easterly winds are then dragging in that low cloud and east coast haar due to the North Sea now being too cold, whilst the rest of the country basks in warm sunshine (on this occasion, just about everyone away from the east coast appears to be getting it a lot colder, albeit not necessarily with an actual official air frost in their area).

Anyway, yesterday's showers gave way to a spell of more persistent rain during the early hours of this morning with the sound of the rain rattling onto my east-facing bedroom window causing me a few problems with trying to sleep. That rain has now cleared away to the north, but it looks (according to the rain radar maps anyway) as though we have reverted back to that same mixture of clear spells and showers which we had yesterday.

The result of this is that a total of 6.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 5.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those station, and this also makes today the joint wettest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

It was still very windy during the early hours of this morning with maximum gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank reaching 43.5mph from the east, but that wind has now died down a bit.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 5.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it has cooled down a little bit from where we were at midnight although this was still yet another fairly mild night as this month's frost-free hell goes on.

It has brightened up now, but nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far as at 1pm this afternoon.

There was some very heavy rain during the latter part of this morning which has now increased today's rainfall total so far as at 1pm this afternoon to 8.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 7.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes today the wettest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank and the second wettest day of this month so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 1pm this afternoon.

It is slightly colder than yesterday though and so, the temperature at 1pm this afternoon was 5.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
