Variable cloud amounts with quite a number of fluctuations in the temperature as a result so that the temperature drops quite nicely whenever the sky is that bit clearer, only to then jump back up again when there is more cloud around. As at midnight though, the temperature was around 4°C.

In a complete contrast to yesterday, today has started off on a rather damp, dull and dreary note. Of course, there has been other mornings recently which have started off on a dull note but unlike on any of those other mornings, there are no gaps in that cloud on this occasion. However, that still doesn't necessarily mean that there never will be any gaps in that cloud as the day goes on, but this does now raise the question of whether we have now entered that period of easterly gloom which has been much talked about on this forum by that Aberdeen duo of richardabdn and doctormog, or whether the Sun will still somehow manage to do what it has always done on every single day of this month so far, by still finding a way through at some point during today, thus continuing that impressive run of days without a single completely sunless day which we are still in just now.

Only time will will tell on that one. However, one thing which is certain is that unlike yesterday morning, there is no question of there being any frost this time even though not all of the available data which I need to properly construct this post has come through, since too much cloud from the early hours of this morning onwards has put paid to that. In fact, the temperatures have actually been slowly going up during that period and is now at around 7°C as at 8am this morning with 0.2 mm of rain having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at that same time.

Given the latest model output as well, it wouldn't now surprise me if that official air frost which was recorded during yesterday morning at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh ends up being the only official air frost to be recorded across all of my three local stations during the whole of this month.

Low cloud. breaking slightly, driven by a brisk NE breeze.  Dry at the moment.

7.7*C after a minimum of 6.2*C at 1.30am

Not sure where to post this, but I've noticed that the rainfall radar at netweather.tv (which is my usual go-to rainfall radar) has been non-functional for over 24 hours.  Anyone else noticed this and/or know what is going on there?

Rather overcast with very occasional light cold rain, not to mention a strong east wind making the current 7.9 c feel colder than it needs to be.

A bit of a comedown after a weekend of near unbroken sunshine.

The dampness from this morning has gone, but that just leaves us in a boring, dull and overcast grey nothingness with constant grey skies which has resulted in nothing in the way of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Of course, there is still time left for the Sun to find a way through and deliver some recorded sunshine, thus maintaining that long run without any sunless days. However, that is now going to have to happen during this afternoon if that is going to happen at all. I'm not giving up all hope of that happening just yet, but I see no signs of that happening just now and with the days now being very short at this time of year, time is fast running out for that.

I'm still not getting all of the data which I need to properly report everything, but I can confirm that last night's overnight minimum temperature was 3.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that this completely frost-free month of November at all of my three local stations with the exception of the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (which did at least record an official air frost during yesterday, albeit with that being the only one of this month so far) goes on.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was around 8°C.

No exciting weather here, I'm afraid (there never is, anyway).

This afternoon has just been one very boring and tedious dull and overcast grey nothingness with yet more constant grey skies. Towards the end of the day, we did start to see the odd small gap appearing in that cloud but in the end, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

That makes today, only the first completely sunless day of this month and the third sunless day of this autumn. Indeed, today was the first sunless day to be recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 13 October 2018 and so brings to an end, a run of 36 days in a row where at least some sunshine had been recorded. That was always going to come to an end at some point in time, especially at this time of year when the days are very short and so, it wouldn't surprise me if that run which has just ended is close to being an all time record for here at this time of the year.

Since that was such an exceptional run, I'm not too bothered about today, especially since it is still looking as though this month should still end up being sunnier than average overall anyway. Having said that though, there is the chance that getting that required number of hours of sunshine in order for this month to end up being sunnier than average could end up being a lot harder than anticipated if today is the start of a much duller spell of weather but for now, I still think that we have enough hours of sunshine in the bag during this month so far for us to get there in the end.

For me, this is therefore, the equivalent of seeing a football team going on a long unbeaten run and then getting a standing ovation from their fans for those efforts at the end of a later match where that team are eventually beaten, thus ending that long unbeaten run.

Not enough available data has come through for me to be able to give a more detailed temperature report, but today's maximum temperature was around 8°C which the temperature at 4pm this afternoon not much lower than that.

Plenty of "lake effect" showers rattling through today, some with hail. A max of 8.9C in a brisk ENE'ly flow and, at times, as low as 5.0C in the rain and hail.

Good to know the old conveyor belt still works, anyway. If only it were 5 degrees colder!

Very similar setup to early March 2018.

A keen easterly breeze blowing showers up the Humber and the M62 corridor down towards Manchester.

Shame it’s 6C too warm. ;)

This evening has remained rather cloudy with the odd shower which has made things rather damp once again, although no more than a further 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded from this at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8pm this evening with nothing at all at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

It was rather windy earlier on as well, although that wind has now died down slightly. There is obviously too much cloud and too much wind around for the temperature to be allowed to drop by all all that much, although the temperature has dropped slightly to around 6°C as at 8pm this evening.

Some sharp showers have developed in the last few minutes containing some hail.

The temperature has dropped back to 5.8c.

The NE'ly convective machine has been slow to fire into life for the extreme SE of Kent  compared to the rest of the county over recent years. Today was no exception.

1.2mm so far today (0.8mm of that in the last 20 minutes).
