For a while during yesterday evening, the temperature was dropping away quite nicely under clear skies.

Just like the thing though, it has since clouded over again and now, the temperatures are once again refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

Once again, the temperatures have gone back up a bit over the last few hours as a result and so, the temperature at midnight was 9.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

One thing which has changed though is that yesterday finally ended up being the first completely dry day at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh since 6 November 2018, thus ending a run of 9 days in a row where there was at least some measurable rainfall at both of those stations.

There is still a lot of cloud around this morning. However, there are also some gaps in that cloud just as there has been on just about every other morning recently and as we keep on discovering every single day these days, the Sun always manages to find a way through at some point during the day. Because of that, I already know that today is not going to be any different in that regard.

This is happening despite the fact that our much awaited easterly wind has now arrived and this is why despite what others might say here, I still believe that this month is still on course to end up being one where we don't see a single completely sunless day being recorded at either Edinburgh Gogarbank or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Last night's minimum temperature was 5.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 7.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Thaaaaaaaaaat's more like it, warm Autumnal sunshine in much clearer skies, the cold front did an excellent job in clearing away the low cloud/mist crap. Even the air has that lovely crisp ionised continental scent about it.

10.3 c & 80% h under a moderate east breeze. Everything is drying up after the recent clammy dampness.

Looking like sunless day no 6 from this revolting month in Aberdeen so have taken a trip up to Moray where the sun is shining out of a clear blue sky.

Wouldn't normally bother at this time of year but anything to reduce the exposure to soul destroying gloom given the toxic rot that's going to be present all of the coming week.

10.8C and sunny. A brisk wind at times taking the edge of things. I can see the murk on the Snake Pass summit. Pennines doing a great job of holding it back today.

Looking like North West Wales and Northern Scotland will be really quite warm for the time of year today.

As expected, the Sun has done what it normally does these days after a cloudy start to the day and even though we didn't get the anti-cyclonic gloom which has been reported elsewhere in recent days, today has still brought us a bit more in the way of sunshine anyway, than what we have had at the same stage of other recent days.

This has resulted in a total of 1.9 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, so today is yet another day which is not going to go down as being completely sunless and so this now brings us one step closer to that increasing inevitable scenario of this month not having a single completely sunless day in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

At the moment, the amount of sunshine which we have had during this month so far, is so far ahead of where we should be at this stage of this month that even if we were to get the odd completely sunless day between now and the end of the month, this is probably not going to matter too much in terms of this month going down in the end, as being sunnier than average overall. For that reason, I'm not going to be anywhere near as bothered if we now started to get the odd completely sunless day, as I would be if this month was running duller than average overall so far.

Today is also a lot cooler than other recent days and although it still isn't all that cold, that easterly wind now has a bit of a chill to it with the temperature currently at around 8°C as at 12 noon.

A fabulous late autumn day here. The cloud and murk started to clear around 9am and we've had unbroken sunshine since mid-morning.

Currently 10c here with a bit of a breeze from the SE.

A mostly sunny afternoon means that a total of 5.1 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that despite the fact that we are only just over halfway through the month, an overall total of just at least 19.3 hours of sunshine is needed between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being sunnier than average overall at Edinburgh Gogarbank. With the manner in which this is going just now, I don't see any problems ahead with that target being achieved quite comfortably in the end.

A lack of available data means that I am unable to give the usual full details here for the temperatures, but today was much cooler than of late with a maximum temperature of around 9°C whilst the temperature at around 4pm this afternoon was about 8°C.

Dry and clear with the temperature falling away nicely as a result.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm tonight was down to around 4°C, so tonight is already colder than what it has been for some considerable amount of time.
