In the end, a total of 0.2 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, a total of 0.6 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7am this morning along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 24.6 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 108.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 529.0 mm as at 7am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 21.4 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 93.2 mm and the total for this year so far to 517.6 mm as at 7am this morning.

Although the rainfall amounts for here haven't been all that large, there has only been 2 completely dry days during this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank and just 1 completely dry day during this month so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. For both of those stations, the last completely dry day was on 6 November 2018.

This means that for both of those stations, today is now the 7th day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry and it turns out that yesterday was therefore, the driest day at both of those stations since 6 November 2018.

In addition to that, a minimum of just 4 more official rain days are needed between now and the end of this month for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the number of official rain days at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh whilst a minimum of 6 more official rain days are needed between now and the end of this month for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the number of official rain days at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Apart from that, I fully agree with your assessment of what is happening here in terms of rainfall.

At Edinburgh Gogarbank, we have already had more rain during this month so far than what we had during the whole of October and yet, this month is still running drier than average up until this point in terms of the actual rainfall amounts. Yet, this month is running wetter than average just now in terms of the number of official rain days (days where there has been a total of at least 1.0 mm of rain for that day at any given location).

What this is showing that there has been no shortage of days here when it has actually been raining and yet, we're just not getting much in the way of meaningful totals from that.
