In the end, a total of 0.4 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This came about as a result of some light rain which has fallen over the last few hours, but which has now cleared away. That has also come about despite the forecasts telling us that we were supposed to be going into a drier spell and although this comes nowhere near to being enough for yesterday to go down as an official rain day at either of those stations, this was still enough to mean that yesterday was the ninth day in a row which has failed to stay completely dry at either of those stations.

Although that earlier rain has cleared away though, it remains rather cloudy and because there is still too much cloud around, the temperatures are refusing to drop once again.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 11.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This morning has started off on a dry but dull and overcast note with just the odd isolated very small patch of clearer sky around. This of course, equates to a boring, dull and grey nothingness with constant grey skies and with nothing even remotely interesting actually happening.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 7.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so last night was cooler than of late, but still mild as the frost-free horror show which we have had to endure throughout this month so far goes on.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 8.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Mornin' all from a dull, misty, murky and damp Folkestone village. Hopefully a decaying cold front moving in from the east tomorrow may help to shift this gunk. It won't anywhere be that cold for snow but it should do the job of mixing the air up and introduce clearer drier air in from the near continent over the weekend . . . hopefully.

Currently 10.1 c & 96% h and virtually windless.

Today was forecast to be the cloudiest day which we are likely to see for a while, and that was how the day started off. No matter what the actual synoptics or forecasts throw at us these days though, the Sun always manages to find a way through. That has happened yet again today with the cloud breaking up as the morning has gone on. This has allowed more in the way of sunshine to come through once again with a total of 36 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

This shows once again that we just don't get completely sunless days here any more. If we were ever going to get a completely sunless day, today was surely always going to be the most likely day for that according to the forecasts. Now, I am really struggling to see where elusive first completely sunless day of this month is actually going to come from if that is going to happen at all.

We may well only be just over half way through this month, but it already becoming increasingly clear now that we are unlikely to see any completely sunless days during this month as a result which is remarkable when you consider the time of year which we are currently in, and the fact that there has only been one other month during this year so far which hasn't had any completely sunless days at Edinburgh Gogarbank (that month was July and even more remarkably, there hasn't actually been a single month during this year so far which hasn't had a single completely sunless day at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh).

In addition to that, I was just getting ready to report that today wasn't as mild as of late when the temperature then shot up by quite a bit during the last hour and now as a result of that, the temperature at 12 noon was back up to around 15°C and looking every single bit as ridiculously warm for this time of year as what yesterday was.

There has been some cloud around during this afternoon, but not all that much of it which allowed us to see some decent sunny spells as well.

In the end, a total of 2.0 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank within what is now looking set to go down as quite a substantially sunnier than average month overall (that in turn, will be enough to confirm that this autumn as a whole will down as being sunnier than average).

Once again, today has been yet another ridiculously warm day for the time of year with maximum temperatures reaching just over 15°C.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was around 13°C.

Today there was a bit of sun around midday but generally another poor day and totally vile now with thick murk and drizzle. Max was 10.9C so continuing with the total absence of anything remotely notable in terms of mildness which given that the mean temperature is currently above the record for November is a joke. Last years cold November saw a higher temperature: 15.2C v 13.6C this year.

It's not all that cold just now, but the sky is still fairly clear just now which has allowed the temperatures to fall away by quite a lot from earlier on, to around 8°C as at 8pm this evening.
