There's very little wind just now with the last two hours at Edinburgh Airport being completely calm as at midnight.

However, too much cloud means that the temperatures are once again, refusing to drop.

In the end, a total of 3.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 3.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 6.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Some showers during the early hours of this morning have already resulted in a total of 1.0 mm of rain being recorded for today so far as at 8am this morning at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore go down as yet another official rain day as a result) along with 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, cloud amounts are fairly small at the moment and we have already had the odd sunny spell during this morning.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 4.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that it is cooler this morning than of late, though still nowhere near to being cold enough for frost.

Today has brought an increasing amount of cloud yet again, but a total of 6 minutes of sunshine has eventually been recorded for today so far as at 12 noon and whilst this isn't much this was enough to demonstrate yet again that we just cannot get a completely sunless day in this part of the world these days.

Of course, it may well be a different story elsewhere (Aberdeen appears to be one such example of that if we go by Richard's latest reports here) but for here, this is also showing us that for some reason or another, the permacast hell which is traditionally associated with this time of year just isn't happening this time around (actual data can never really lie after all), even though the overall amount of sunshine which we have had during this month so far isn't really all that different from what we would expect at this stage of any typical November.

Having said that though, I can confirm some light rain has just started to set in here once again. This hasn't yet been enough to add to today's totals, but a light shower of rain during this morning did increase today's rainfall total so far as at 12 noon to 1.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature eventually reached 3.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh during the course of this morning.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon has now gone up to 8.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The changeable theme continue with the setting sun shining through clear skies to my west and north but can see beefy looking cumulonimbus marching north eastwards along the Channel, looking like soldiers marching along to battle.

10.4 mm of rain since the 12 am Davis station reset, most of it fell in the small hours in the form of heavy blustery showers (I suspect the usual night club revellers got a right soaking upon closing time).

We had light rain over this part of the world for more than a couple of hours during this afternoon and yet all that we had to show for that was a further 0.2 mm of recorded rainfall at Edinburgh Gogarbank and nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. The Sun then came out after that band of light rain moved away and at 4pm this afternoon, a total of 12 minutes of sunshine had now been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Yet if it was another forum member such as Bolty or Arty who was reporting that same band of rain in their area, I don't believe that they would have had any problems with reporting something like 8mm or so of rain from that in their area and even although we have been getting more rain recently than what we have getting for quite a while, the amounts of rain which I am reporting continue to fall well short of the amounts of rain which is being recorded elsewhere.

This in turn, makes me wonder why on Earth, it is so difficult for us to get any significant amounts of rainfall in this part of the world compared to elsewhere in the UK (if there is anyone out there who can answer that question, I will be more than happy to listen to that).

As it is, this has only increased today's rainfall so far as at 4pm this evening to 1.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 0.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature was 9.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 7.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Where I am located just now may well be a location where rainfall amounts are always rather small and which is virtually always guaranteed to never be completely sunless on any given day. Yet, this is also a location where you can almost be guaranteed that the temperature will be refusing to drop at night due to there being too much cloud and/or too much wind and the result of this is that we don't generally get very many frosts on average during any given year (we still for example, haven't even had a single official air frost during this month so far and haven't even come close to that yet).

That is exactly what is happening just now because after the temperature had dropped for a while, we now have too much cloud in the way which has now caused the temperature to jump back up a bit during the last hour or so.

As a result of that, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 5.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
