Conclusion:

For a while, it had looked as though October was going to end up being warmer than average overall and indeed, the maximum temperatures did end up being slightly above average overall. However, those hopes were scuppered by a cold snap towards the end of the month which was enough for the minimum temperatures to be slightly below average overall. When all of that is balanced out, The average temperature during October ended up being virtually bang on the 1981-2010 average.

However, it was a significantly drier than average month both in terms of the actual rainfall amounts and the number of official rain days. October was also slightly sunnier than average overall although in the end, it wasn't until the very last day of the month at 12 noon, that the threshold for that was finally satisfied.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Conclusion:

Rather interesting, all of the temperatures for anomalies were exactly the same as they are for Edinburgh Gogarbank which once again shows that October was an average month in terms of the temperatures with slightly above average maximum temperatures and slightly below average minimum temperatures with the number of air frosts being quite significantly above average.

The botanic gardens in Edinburgh were sunnier than Edinburgh Gogarbank and also drier. What I forgot to mention in my last post though was that for both the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and Edinburgh Gogarbank, October was the second driest month of this year so far despite the fact that October is the wettest month on average at both of those stations according to the 1981-2010 average for that respective station. So far as far as this year is concerned, May 2018 is the only month which was drier than October as I write.
