I made it through, Brian. Boy, it was tough at times, waking in a cold sweat at 3am to visions of failed connections and PC incompatibility. But here we are!

Well done Brian. Hope it brings you everything you want.

Interesting point about speed Gavin. I've put the new servers in Microsoft's Cardiff data centre rather than its London one. That was because during testing the performance was consistently better. Also because the infrastructure is much newer TWO now has a "Grade A" Qualys security rating.

(Indicentally I ended up editing my hosts file to get here. My ISP - Merula - hasn't updated its DNS, although Google's had. I've popped the new IP in the hosts file and all's good!)

Got to say I'm pretty impressed with Microsoft Azure at the moment. Superb browser based GUI that enables you scale at the press of a button. Not sure how it compares with AWS but because a lot of my stuff is .NET based it was the obvious choice.

Looking good!

I'll wait a bit before posting my Thoughts thread in case I'm routed back to the old server again!

Here's the wolf centre's SSL report, in case you want to fiddle with your settings:

As long as they don't make it too easy to scale up and rack up the bills! (At work they use AWS - database access here, a bit of CPU there, even though it's fractions of a cent it soon adds up.)

If anyone is ultra geeky they may take pleasure in noting the CFS charts are now smoother. That's because the second GrADS (which runs on the primary server and acts as a back-up CFS apart) instance has been updated to a version that uses the Cairo graphics library to bring it into line with the primary instance.

Hi Brian.

Do not know whether it is related or not but I was trying to produce one of my long Arctic ice posts this pm about 4pm....

It has finally gone through.

I kept getting dropped out and then a message came up - about the 4th attempt (it was saying that my post had exceeded the size limit and that I should try and reduce the post size!) before continuing.

I was unaware that there was a limit on the size of posts we could produce, and there was a lot of charts and graph in it.

PS I was also unaware of your change and after seeing this thought I had better check.

Whilst on - are you accepting new registrations again now?.

Grandad: the post limit isn't related to the server change.

Registrations will remain on request. However, email via site feedback isn't yet working.
