The rain from earlier on during yesterday evening has now cleared away to leave a clear night, and a much cooler night than of late.

In the end, a total of 1.4 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where yesterday will now go down as yet another official rain day as a result), but along with just 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 7.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A fairly damp start to this morning here, but this is a location which never sees significant rainfall totals these days any more, and this has been shown once again by the fact that a total of just 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 0.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There are also still a few small patches of blue sky around and the Sun always manages to find a way through here in the end these days, it also wouldn't surprise me one single bit if neither of the next couple of days ended up being completely sunless, despite the very poor forecast.

It is windy as well, but the presence of Storm Callum isn't making it any windier than what it has been recently and in fact, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank is only gusting up to 35.4mph from the SSE as at 8am this morning.

Last night's minimum temperature was 7.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 6°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It has since turned a lot milder as it has clouded over, although it's still not as warm as it has been recently, so the temperature at 8am this morning had gone up to 12.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Wild and windy but highest gust so far is only 39mph.
A few bursts of rain but barely wet grounds so far, however more looks imminent.
Power has been off for a couple of hours, but since it went off almost exactly 8am I suspect it was turned off manually to deal with a potential problem such as something touching lines.

So far, our usual borefest of mostly grey skies and very little in the way of either rainfall or sunshine has not yet come to an end despite the presence of Storm Callum and although the Sun has made a few brief appearances during this morning, a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon with no change to our overall rainfall totals since my last report.

It is very windy though and although it's not the windiest that it's ever been when one of these storms has been around, the maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, have got up to 46.0mph from the SSW.

Despite the strong winds though, it is still far too warm for my liking, and the temperature at 12 noon was still up at 16.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Dry and fair with sunny spells and variable cloud amounts. The current 19 c & 78% h are still feeling warm despite the brisk southerly wind. Still have shorts and T shirt on and sweating like a loon (only need a cardie when I popped out and even that felt too warm to wear).

Quite an unusual combination of weather conditions this afternoon, at about 2pm temp was 21.9*C with 49%RH and a strong blustery wind.  Great for drying washing, but I found it a little unpleasantly dry.

Here in Edinburgh, it is still overcast with a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank so far as at 4pm this afternoon, and nothing at all in that department since 11am this morning.

It has also been raining for the last few hours, and it's still raining as I write. As is usually the case here, the amounts from that are still not all that great and so at 4pm this afternoon, a total of 2.6 mm of rain had fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 1.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, this means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations. For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this means that 5 out of the last 6 days have been official rain days but at the the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, today is only the second official rain day of this month, and the first official rain day since the very first day of this month. As an indication of how dry this month has been in these parts so far though, those totals mean that today is also the wettest day of this month so far at both of those stations.

As the rain has set in though, the temperatures have dropped a bit, and the wind has died down as well.

Today's maximum temperature was 16.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was was now down to 12.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Cloudy, strong to gale force southerlies, 17.4 C @ 91% RH and pressure @ 1000mb. Winds have eased a touch from the earlier severe gusts - these have downed trees in the area damaging cars and cutting power to part of the town. The longevity of this windy spell coupled with trees still in full leaf is causing problems.

The rain from earlier on has cleared away, but the rather abysmal total of just 6 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all since 11am this morning. Since there hasn't yet been any completely sunless days during this month, this makes today the dullest day of this month so far.

Today's rainfall total so far as at 8pm this evening was 3.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The wind has picked up a bit once again with gusts up to 31.1mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm this evening.

We are now behind the cold front which is associated with Storm Callum and because of that, I had expected tonight to be a bit cooler than of late and yet, the temperatures have actually gone up a bit over the last few hours, so the temperature at 8pm this evening was 13.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
