Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that my final total for September comes out as 58.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 49.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is exactly bang on 100.0% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had just 77.6% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during September.

Overall, this shows that in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, September brought exactly average rainfall to Edinburgh Gogarbank, but was a drier than average month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. When you balance everything out though, we are more or less say that the rainfall amounts in this part of the world were a bit below average during September.

However, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 14 official rain days during September and this shows that it was a wetter than average month there in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 134.6% of the 1981-2010 average. It is a similar story at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which had 12 official rain days with that amounting to 117.4% of the 1981-2010 average.

Meanwhile, I can now confirm that the total for this autumn so far is 58.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 49.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 26.8% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 24.5% of its 1981-2010 average during this autumn so far.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 14 official rain days during this autumn so far which is 38.7% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 12 official rain days during this autumn so far which is 35.5% of the 1981-2010 average.

Over the year so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 478.4 mm of rain which is 63.4% of the 1981-2010 averages whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 473.8 mm of rain during this year so far which is 67.3% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 89 official rain days during this year so far which is 64.8% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 94 official rain days during this year so far which is 75.7% of the 1981-2010 average.


The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

0.4mm to add from the 30th, final total is 127.6mm which is 170% of the local average.
