Well, this is absolutely bonkers!!

The earlier rain has cleared away a while ago and the sky is now a lot clearer with only small amounts of cloud, although it is also windy with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank gusting up to 34.2mph from the WSW.

Instead of dropping as we would normally expect the temperature to be doing at this time of night though, it is actually going up to the point where it is now, well above the maximum temperature for during the day which I reported in yesterday's thread.

In the end, a total of 1.0 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature has now gone up to 13.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and  13.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is absolutely ridiculous!!

The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh, and we have a bright and sunny start to the day.

It is windy though with maximum wind gusts of up to 32.3mph from the west at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

After a very mild night, the temperature is now dropping away and so, the temperature at 8am this morning was 9.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Rather cloudy and while I can see bits of blue skies it is nowhere as cheerful and bright as yesterday. It also seem to be feeling cool and fresh even though at 16.3 c is already higher than yesterday's max of 16.0 c at 3.15 pm.

This morning also started on a rather damp note with 0.6 mm in the early hours but is drying up now.

EDIT: Actually, it is now brightening up more, so the forecast max of 20 c this afternoon may still be doable.

Just reached 20.2 c after a recent sunny break, but now that it's clouded over again it isn't really feeling that warm for it anyway.

Actually, I take my last comment back.  The 20.8 c felt balmy in the sunny bits when I just popped out for a bit.

Normally, it is behind a cold front that we would expect to see such clear skies and the forecast at the time, was for a cold front to move through from the north by around midnight. I can only assume that this cold front did eventually move through at some point later on before dawn, but the only evidence from that came from the drop in the temperature which then followed during this morning.

Apparently though, another warm front is expected to approach us later on tonight so for that reason, it might be a bit pointless reporting today's maximum temperature on this thread on my next update as these values might well be exceed by whatever the temperature rises to later on once that warm front moves through.

As a result of a mostly sunny afternoon and early evening, a total of 9.1 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Despite the fact that we are rapidly losing daylight with each passing day, this makes today the second sunniest day of this autumn so far. Because the nights are drawing in so quickly, it wouldn't surprise me if today ends up being the sunniest day of this month in the final statistics for October because today's total will take some beating, given the usual nature of our weather.

Today's maximum temperature so far (I'm saying it this way just in case a warm front quickly moves in and causes the temperature to go up again) is 13.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 13.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For now though, the temperatures are falling away under clear skies and so, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 9.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Another sunny day spoiled by the wind. Temperatures near average yet again as well with a max of 13.2C.

One of the most tedious seasons I can remember. The constant average temperatures, lack of warmth and cold, lack of calm sunny days and lack of properly wet days is just unreal

It's been pretty dreary and cloudy in Manchester, but I went to York today. It was much sunnier over the other side, and it's actually surprising how much the Pennines block a lot of the crap from the west.
