Dry and clear with the waning gibbous Moon clearly visible fairly high in the sky to my east.

Just at the very last minute, 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded during the last hour. This can only be due to condensation since the radar maps show nothing in the way of rainfall anywhere near that station, but it does bring the final total for that station for this month to exactly the same as the 1981-2010 average for that location.

In the end, today's final rainfall total was 0.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and had those figures been the other way around, this month would have gone down as being slightly wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 6.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A new month, but still the same old boring weather in this part of the world.

This morning has started off on a cold note with the odd appearance by the Sun, but there is also a lot of cloud around.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 3.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 1°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it was the coldest night of the autumn so far.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 3.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 3.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

After a little bit of brightness to begin with, the day has largely descended into yet another boring grey and overcast nothingness with yet more constant grey skies. The result of this is that a total of just 42 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

It is however, rather chilly and the temperature at 12 noon was just 9.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The gradual decline in our weather during today is now complete, as it is now raining here in Edinburgh as I write.

So far, a total of just 42 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon with nothing at all in that department since 11am this morning.

In addition to that, a total of 0.4 mm of rain has been recorded during both today and this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon, along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's maximum temperature was 10.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes today, the coldest day of this autumn so far, as well as of this month so far.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's stopped raining here, but this just means that we're back to the usual borefest as it is still overcast with the temperature refusing to drop as a result.

In the end, the rather dismal total of just 42 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in the way of sunshine being recorded there since 11am this morning.

Today's rainfall total has now crept up to 1.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as the first official rain day of this month at both of these stations although the actual amounts once again, are proving to be very small and doing nothing to redress the rainfall deficit from earlier on in the year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 9.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
