A total of just 0.4 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday with the botanic gardens in Edinburgh remaining completely dry.

However, a total of 8.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm this evening along with 5.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This makes today the wettest day of both this month and this autumn so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank and the second wettest day of both this month and this autumn so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 27.4 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 27.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 447.8 mm as at 7pm this evening.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 24.4 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 24.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 448.8 mm as at 7pm this evening.

A total of 0.4 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday along with 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, a total of 3.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 2.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 31.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 31.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 452.2 mm as at 8am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 26.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 26.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 451.2 mm as at 8am this morning.

The rainfall totals for this month are now running much closer to average than what they were a few days ago and for Edinburgh Gogarbank in particular, are no longer running significantly drier than average. Furthermore, the immediate outlook is looking rather wet, especially with ex-Hurricane Helene still to arrive at the beginning of next week.

Sunday evening's rain was quite a bit heavier than I expected, and gave us 13mm, bringing our total so far this month to 28mm.

A total of 1.4 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank during today so far thanks to ex-Hurricane Helene as at 2pm this afternoon along with 1.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 35.0 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 35.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 455.4 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 30.6mm, the total for this autumn so far to 30.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 455.0 mm as at 2pm this afternoon.

Ex-Hurricane Helene didn't bring all that much in the way of rainfall, but there is still Storm Ali to come during tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what we can end up getting with that (although the current Met Office warnings for that are more for wind, rather than rain).

Half an hour of heavy to torrential rainfall from tonight's cold front has added 12.7mm; total now at 58.7mm which is roughly 130% of the local average at this stage of the month.

So far, today has been completely dry as at 7am this morning although the latest radar map shows that a lot of very heavy rain is heading in this direction, courtesy of Storm Ali.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 36.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 36.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 457.2 mm as at 7am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes this month's total so far to 31.6mm, the total for this autumn so far to 31.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 456.0 mm as at 7am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes this month's total so far to 50.0 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 50.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 470.4 mm as at 8pm this evening.

Since there has now been more official rain days at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this month than the 1981-2010 average, this month will now go down as a wetter than average month at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

In addition to that, only another 8.1 mm of rain needs to fall between now and the end of this month for this month to go down as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the actual rainfall amount.

The 20th saw 57.8mm from the current weather system! Total now at 116.5mm which includes 2.4mm from a recent shower today on the 21st. If that quasi-stationary trough line sets up later through the Cheshire Gap - as shown on the fax charts then September here could go down as one exceptionally wet month!
