Once again, it has clouded over here in Edinburgh although it's still dry as has become the norm here now these days.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 13.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is slightly milder than last night.

Despite all of the talk about the outlook supposedly being more "unsettled", our weather is still refusing to become more unsettled and the rain continues to refuse to fall here.

There is a lot of cloud here, but there is some clear sky as well. In fact, the Sun has even been out at times with a total 12 minutes of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

There was a little bit of light rain during the early hours of this morning, but this has resulted in the rather measly total of just 0.2 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh with nothing at all at Edinburgh Gogarbank as this month continues to have an increasingly dry and parched look to it in this part of the world with the rainfall deficit for this month (along with the preceding summer) continuing to mount up as a result.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 12.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, last night was milder than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 15.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is looking set to become quite warm yet again.

All I can therefore say is, so much for this so-called "unsettled" weather that we were supposed to be getting.

A bright day with some sunshine and varied cloud amounts, and the 20.5 C felt warm in direct sunshine when sheltered from the brisk SW breeze.

An improvement on yesterday when it was quite cloudy for most of the time.

Yet again, today is turning out to be not too bad a day here in Edinburgh and continues to be anything but "unsettled" in this part of the world.

In fact, the earlier clouds have largely gone (although there has been the odd very light passing shower which has come to nothing so far, and there is still some cloud around) and so, a total of 1.7 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Having said that though, it is windy with maximum wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, getting up to 31.1mph from the WSW.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 16.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh just now, but there was a very heavy shower of rain during the early part of this afternoon, although even that didn't last for long.

As at 4pm this afternoon, a total of 4.2 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This afternoon's heavy shower has brought today's rainfall totals for today so far to 1.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank (where today will therefore, go down as an official rain day as a result) and 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 4pm this afternoon. For both of those stations, that is only a tiny amount for what is supposed to be an unsettled spell of weather and so, this is still doing nothing to properly redress the rainfall deficit which is still continuing to build up, and which has been doing since just before the start of the summer.

It is windy though and at 4pm this afternoon, the highest wind gusts at Edinburgh Gogarbank were up to 37.9mph from the west.

However, it has been yet another warm day here and today's maximum temperature was 17.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 14.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, some good sunny spells during this afternoon meant that in the end, a total of 5.9 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank and the wind has also died down a bit during this evening.

There has however, been some further heavy rain during evening from a clump of heavy showers which has just moved through here. It usually takes a bit of time for this to show up as any sort of recorded rainfall at any local weather station and so, nothing has shown up from that at Edinburgh Gogarbank just yet. However, a further 0.4 mm has been added to today's total for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8pm this evening and so, this means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 11.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
