A very depressing and dreary start to the day here, which isn't exactly good for the Monday blues which therefore, isn't exactly going to be wanting anyone to be even be getting out of bed all day, never mind actually going out and about.

It's overcast with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

It's also raining here in Edinburgh as I write. As at 8am this morning, a total of just 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank, but that is along with 1.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where today will therefore, go down as an official rain day as a result.

After a very warm and humid night, the temperature is still falling away and so, the temperature at 8am this morning was 11.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 11.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A totally rank morning. Dark, grey, gloomy, drizzly. 10.4C and yet to drop into single figures in this rotten cloudy month.

A thoroughly wet and miserable day here in Edinburgh so far, although the rain has eased off a bit for now.

With all of that going on, there is nothing in the way of sunshine which has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Today's rainfall total so far as at 12 noon was 3.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 5.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as the first official rain day of both this month and this autumn, at both of those stations.

This morning's minimum temperature eventually bottomed out at 11.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 11.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and just 11.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is quite a lot cooler than what it was at this time yesterday and even for this time of year, those temperatures are still very disappointing.

So much then, for this great start to September which we were supposedly going to be getting!!

Even though there is more in the way of cloud on the last couple of days, it's still being a fine Summer-like day anyway with good bright/sunny breaks and feeling warm at 21.8 C & 70% H under a light north east breeze.

The dismal September weather goes on here in Edinburgh with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

It's now finally drying up after the earlier rainfall, but today's rainfall total so far has now increased to 3.8 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 6.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 4pm this afternoon.

On a rather bizarre note though, we have to go all the way back to the early hours of this morning to find today's maximum temperature which was 16.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 17.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Since the temperatures dropped to this morning's minimum values though, they have never even come close to reaching those earlier maximum temperatures at any point during the day today, so it has also been a rather cool day as well.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 12.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

As we reach the end of what has been a rather miserable day here in Edinburgh, I can report that nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that although today is only the third day of the meteorological autumn, today will now go down as the first completely sunless day of both this month and this autumn despite the fact that it is this early part of the autumn which has the greatest amount of available daylight hours.

Some further light rain and drizzle during this evening has also resulted in today's rainfall total so far as at 8pm this evening, creeping up to 4.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 7.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 10.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Revolting all day long. Cold, grey, dreary. Max of 12.9C making it the coldest day since 23rd May.

Like all the recent Sundays that this muck has ruined the rain total wasn't high at 3.2mm, just dull and depressing all day
