So, here is the first Current Conditions thread of the meteorological autumn, which is starting off on a clear note, although there is still some cloud around which is obscuring the waxing gibbous Moon at times.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Once again, the concept of there being more than two bright and sunny starts to a day in a row proves to be too much to ask for in this part of the world, as this morning has started off on a grey and dismal note with nothing in the way of sunshine, having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

In addition to that, there has also been some light drizzle around at times, although we have yet to get off the mark in terms of actual recorded rain during both this month and this autumn.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 9.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it was another cool night though not as cold as the previous night.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 15.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

What an absolutely glorious day, very June 2018 like with deep blue skies, a hot sun and a refreshing breeze.

Best summer of my life continues!

Nothing has really changed since this morning.

There is the odd patch of blue sky here and there, but these are never in the right place for the Sun to be seen through them and this morning has generally been a continuation of that same old boring grey nothingness which was all too common during August. The end result of this is that nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 17.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

We're now finally off the mark for both this month and this autumn in terms of the number of hours of sunshine which have been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank. However, this afternoon has been largely dominated by constant grey skies with a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature so far is 18.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. If this was the middle of summer just now, those temperatures would be considered to be no better than average at all of my three local stations. Now that we are into the meteorological autumn though, that is actually fairly warm for this time of year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 17.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Some clearer sky has now appeared to my south and SE, but that is all a bit late now as today has mostly been a complete dull and overcast borefest with nothing else actually happening. This in turn led to the measly total of just 6 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank, with nothing at all in that department since 3pm this afternoon. We may well be into autumn now, but that total is still really abysmal even for this time of year as September continues where August left off in terms of that real lack of sunshine.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 16.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is a much milder night than recently so far.

Cloudy start but it got progressively better as the day wore on and became sunny and pleasantly warm.
