Last night was quite cold for the time of year in the end, but the final day of the meteorological summer has started off on a bright and sunny note (something which we haven't been able to say for the vast majority of the time during this summer) with 48 minutes of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's minimum temperature was 5.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 6.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that last night was the coldest night of the summer at all three of my local stations.

The temperature has started to respond nicely to the sunshine, but it is still cold outside just now, for this time of year. Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 7.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Fair with some sunshine and partial cloud. 18.8 & 71% H under a gentle easterly breeze.

Will it go all overcast via convective infill by the afternoon? Like it had done so in the past couple of days (fair AM, dull PM).

After a cold start at 4 C, summer returns to Edinburgh on its last day. Clear blue sky, few Cumulus and 20 C.....beautiful! Had lunch in the garden!

Very pleasant sunny morning - just right for working in the garden with my sleeves rolled up.  Perfect temperature, not too hot (unlike the height of our recent summer).  Clouded over this afternoon.

The sunniest day of the month with clear blue skies but feeling like autumn not summer.

Temperature fell to 4.3C overnight which is the third coldest August minimum in my records after 3.0C on 25/8/14 and 4.0C on 31/8/12.

Max was only 15.9C so another below average day like all but six days since the 10th.

A completely sunny evening means that in the end, a total of 11.3 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that today will now go down as the second sunniest day of this month in the final statistics for August.

Indeed, today came very close to being the sunniest day of this month despite having the lowest number of available daylight hours of this month. In the end, that honour has now gone to 9 August 2018 which had just 6 minutes of sunshine more than what we had today.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm this evening was 13.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
