Dry and Clear.

Much cooler and fresher than of late and so, the temperature at midnight was 11.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Warmest night of the year last night here- save the 2 weeks I was away on holiday- might have topped it.

Min 19C, now 19.5, and judging by the satellite, the first cold front of the two hasn't quite reached us yet.

Odd feel outside- breezy and cloudy but warm, and with a few blue holes; ground not wet.

After yesterday evening's lovely sunshine, this morning is a case of normal service resumed for this month once again as the day has dawned with yet another boring and depressing grey nothingness with yet more constant grey skies and nothing at all actually happening (even if it was raining just now, it would mean that something is at least happening). Not surprisingly as well, this has resulted in what has now become that all too familiar daily theme of there being nothing in the way of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 10.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 12.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The breezy, warm start was followed by a half-hour drizzle event then an hour's light rain. It's stopped currently, and brightening, but with a temperature down to 18.6C.

I'm still on this side of the (decaying) cold front with 20.8 C & 86% H but there is a freshening south west breeze with increasing cloud (slowly losing the brightness).

Here in Edinburgh, our complete and utter grey and overcast borefest goes on and as at 12 noon, there is still nothing in the way of sunshine which has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Unlike yesterday as well, I'm seeing no signs of that situation changing any time soon.

The only thing which comes even remotely close to actually being "interesting" is the that the radar maps are consistently showing there to be some rain around. Yet the actual reality here on the the surface is that other than just an occasional spot of rain, nothing at all is actually happening.

In addition to that, the temperatures are also refusing to rise during the day at the moment. As at 12 noon, the temperature was 13.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, just 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. For all three of these stations, that is really abysmal for this time of year and it has meant that I have had to dig out a warm jumper for wearing outside which is something which I shouldn't be having to do during what is still supposed to be our "summer".

Second cold front now visible to the NW; long streets of clouds, condensing but fragmenting for now, leaving all the warm air squashed down here; 21.6C.

Today's local mean CET will be in the region of 20.5C.

Today has actually turned out warmer than yesterday, with 22.4C the max so far, and hazy cloud now thinning the sun a tad. I suspect in this light NWly some places nearer the coast may be warmer still. Yesterday was a cloudy affair, despite the warmer airmass- testimony to the difference the sunshine makes even at this stage in the summer.

Update- maxed at 22.6 but completely overcast now. 4.45pm and 22.3 so unlikely to go higher.

This afternoon's weather in the end, ended up being much livelier than this morning's weather, although that was never going to be difficult anyway.

Rather annoyingly, it started chucking it down with rain as soon as I was about to venture out for my Thursday afternoon voluntary job with my local autism charity. It is though the weather gods knew what time I was going to be venturing out and so, had decided to hold off with the rain until that exact moment when I was about to leave my house.

Fortunately, the rain wasn't on for long and not long afterwards, we even started to see a little bit of very welcome and much needed sunshine. Since then, there has been a number of further heavy showers but also some spells of sunshine as well at times.

As at 5pm this afternoon though, the very measly total of just 48 minutes of sunshine was recorded the whole of today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Those heavy showers on the other hand, have resulted in a total of 1.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 14.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This evening brought some further sunny intervals and in the end, a total of 3.0 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is very poor for this time of year yet again, though better than what it had looked as though we would get at earlier on today.

In addition to that sunshine though, we also had another shower of rain during this evening. This wasn't picked up at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh though, and it only added another 0.2 mm onto today's total at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today's maximum temperature was just a really dismal 14.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and just 14.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. For all three of these stations, that is just absolutely pathetic for this time of year!!😡

This has taken us into quite a chilly evening though with the temperature now dropping away quite a bit. Consequently, the temperature at 9pm this evening was 10.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
