It's now raining here in Edinburgh as former Tropical Storm Ernesto has now made his presence felt in this part of the world.

Having said that though, there has still been no further recorded rainfall since yesterday morning as at midnight. This means that a total of just 0.8 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that yesterday as an official rain day, only at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and not at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, it is a rather warm and humid night with the temperature at midnight holding up at 15.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A thoroughly wet and miserable start to this morning, with nothing in the way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far as at 8am this morning.

There was no recorded rainfall before midnight, but what has happened since midnight has more than made up for that with the rain being relentless ever since then, although it is now finally clearing away as I write.

This has resulted in 12.4 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with 15.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations and in addition to that, today is already the wettest day of this month so far at both of those stations.

Last night was mild, but the temperatures are still dropping after that as at 8am this morning when the temperature was 13.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This weekend has been proof that the old saying 'Red Sky at Night, Shepherd's Delight' is complete nonsense. We had a brilliant pink/orange sunset last night, as the cloud cleared just at the right moment, but today it's back to disgusting grey muck and wet too.

A vile summer day with slate grey skies, temperature of 12.1C and 3.8mm rain. Third stinking awful Sunday out of four

It had looked for a while (according to the radar maps at least) as though the rain was clearing away from here this morning and indeed, the heaviest rain has now gone. However, there has been a finger of light rain and drizzle which has continued to cling on here like a limpet throughout this morning, which has continued to be rather miserable as a result.

The result of this is that there is still nothing in the way of sunshine which has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, whilst today's rainfall total so far as at 12 noon has now crept up to 14.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 16.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today's minimum temperature finally came out as 13.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was a rather disappointing 15.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and just a really miserable 13.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Rather overcast with the brisk SW west wind where the 19.5 C felt quite cool and fresh for it. However, going by the latest satellite image, it looks like things should brighten up very soon. Although I am disappointed at the lack of any rain (not that any was forecast anyway) as my still poorly-looking lawn really could use it. As our Jiries often like to say, that is not acceptable.

The earlier drizzle has very slowly faded away, although it appears to still be not too far away according to the latest radar maps. The only result of this though, is that this afternoon has just ended up developing into yet another depressing grey nothingness.

The result of this is that as at 5pm this afternoon, there is still nothing at all in the way of sunshine which has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with today's sunshine total continuing to remain resolutely stuck on 0.0 hours of sunshine for the entire day.

However, there hasn't been any further additions to today's rainfall totals over the last couple of hours and so, a total of 14.4 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon, along with 17.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The temperatures have been very disappointing for this time of year as well, so today's maximum temperature was 15.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank,15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where that maximum was reached at 1am this morning, thus showing us just how much the temperatures have been refusing to rise during today.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 14.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 13.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
