A frigid 12.9C after a shower passed through.

All of the same people who were moaning about it being too hot last week are now moaning that it's too cold. Serves them right.

Anyway and back on topic, I can confirm that Edinburgh can be split in half just now in terms of what the weather is like with completely different types of weather on opposite sides of the city.

There has been some showers not far from here which has resulted in a total of 2.6 mm of rain now being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank, where just 12 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for the whole of today so far as at 3pm this afternoon.

In that half of the city, it is rather chilly with the temperature down at 13.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and 13°C at Edinburgh Airport as at 3pm this afternoon.

That is in line with what just about everyone else is reporting here. Yet in this part of the city where I live, it is like being in a completely different world as the rain still refuses to fall here, the Sun continues to blaze down here and as we still seem to be stuck on that same old pattern of weather which we have seen throughout the summer.

This means that the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (which is the actual closest station to where I live) at 3pm this afternoon, was up at 18.0°C in response to that, which isn't even the least bit cool for the time of year.

So, you really can't come up with a bigger contrast than that, between two different parts of the same city.

A high of 17.1C today, meaning this could very well be the coolest day of the summer. It's certainly felt cool, under showers this afternoon it was only 11C. Awful!

Six days ago it was 30 C and blazing sunshine, now it's 16 C and raining with very blustery winds, as if we have taken a direct short cut to Autumn.

PS: 8.2 mm so far today.

Home location: Folkestone Harbour.

We had a very rare shower of rain at 1 o clock and it got quite blustery and looked like it might pour it down, but it didn’t last long. Now sunny again but only 17.5c.

Anyway and back on topic, the Sun is still shining here as the rain continues to refuse to fall in this part of Edinburgh where I live. Since my last post here, further showers have now rather unbelievably missed us to the north and that has to leave this small part of the world, as the only remaining place in Scotland which has just not been affected by those showers since this morning.

Having said that though, a little bit more in the way of sunshine has now come through at Edinburgh Gogarbank although a total of just 54 minutes of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon although the sunshine total at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh at 5pm (which I probably won't have at hand until next week) will no doubt, be a lot higher than that.

Meanwhile, the temperature (which has still not yet peaked for today so far) at 5pm this afternoon was 16.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Uppers must be cool today. The rain has sent the temperature tumbling from 17C to just 12.1C. Unheard of this summer.

Here it was nice and sunny first thing and warm enough to have breakfast in the garden but turned worse as the day progressed. Another cloudy, grey mess at the moment following afternoon showers. Max was 17.9C just after 10am. Now just 14.3C.

I missed most of the showers today, they seened to pass mainly to the south of here. Certainly quite pleasant out there at the moment, a good deal of sun if rather breezy.

Today ended on a fairly sunny note but in the end, yet another really dismal total of just 1.8 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As the evening wore on though and more and more showers kept in piling in towards us, it was always going to a matter of time before our luck run out in this part of Edinburgh where I am, therefore resulting in us actually getting those showers. That indeed was what ended up happening during this evening. It didn't rain for long for the Sun was back out, but the rain was really heavy when it came.

The end result of that is a total of 2.6 mm of rain has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm this evening, along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations. However, those showers are dying away now which means that those totals which I have just reported, should now end up being today's final totals.

Today's maximum temperature was 16.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which is overall, rather disappointing for this time of year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9pm this evening was 12.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A lot of rain again today (15.6mm), combine that with 16.6mm yesterday and things have suddenly become very soggy.

12.9c and falling away now under clearing skies.

Another single digit minimum seems likely.
