26.4C at 9.45am. Humidity enough to make even that seem stifling.

Worth keeping an eye on temperatures in Spain and Portugal over the coming days. Several places reached 43C yesterday and it could be hotter today.

Faro was already at 33.9C at 10am. In Spain, Moron de la Frontera was 37C at 11am.

Portalegre, Portugal, was apparently 31C at 4am! Don't know how reliable that reading is.

Perpignan in France was 36.1C at midday.

37C here in Provence today, and with low humidity surprisingly tolerable. No major heatwave for France though, in the end - the really hot air is being spun North Westwards into the Atlantic rather than through Iberia and across the Pyrenees.

California not far off record high temps but the interesting new record is the highest temp ever accompanied by rain - 119 F / 48.3 C but the rain only amounted to a trace, a high-level shower just about surviving to ground level in humidity there down to 15%

I haven't heard yet if the Portuguese or all time European record has been broken. Its close,as Beja reached 47C on Saturday, just 1C below the all time record set in Athens. On the BBC they said they wont know for a day or 2 if somewhere else may have broken the record
