Well it's probably one of the dullest months here then too. I just feel like we have had good Junes recently but haven't checked the stats!

My birthday is in August too and I have a lot of hot memories but I've always felt like summer is winding down after my birthday so that makes me feel worse in a way. I know that once my birthday has passed, we are nearing shops full of halloween stuff!

Conversely, I don't really like June, and my dislike for it is reflected in the averages - out of all months from May to September, June is the dullest in percentage terms. It always feels like despite the long days of June, the weather usually doesn't allow you to enjoy it fully so it's kind of wasted - this year being a big exception. It feels like June has the most wasted potential given the very long days. Plus, we are more prone to low cloud in June. We are now in the warmest period of the year on average so in a typical year we should be having our best weather right around now.

I suppose I'm biased though because my birthday is in August, so I have many happy childhood memories of spending warm, sunny birthdays outdoors, and it's nice having your birthday during the summer holidays. It was 31C on my birthday in 1995.

I feel a bit the same as Andy, that August is winding the summer down and days are getting shorter, so it’s a little bit sad!  May is my favourite month because the countryside is so fresh and colourful, days are getting longer and there are promises of summer to come!

Cavendish has got to 30.0c , I believe that makes it the 22nd day that somewhere in the UK has got to 30c. Equalling 1976 I think now. I'm sure GW will confirm this later.

30C here - humidity seems higher than before the weekend; quite unpleasant to do even the lightest of tasks.

Reached 27.1°C in the end, making it the warmest August day since 2013 around here. It just shows what a poor month August has been for warmth lately.

Quite impressed by the temperatures today; into the 28s here, exceeding even the ARPEGE 00z run's prediction (27).

With that in mind, tomorrow could well bring 31-32*C here. ARPEGE's being going for 31*C.

The weekend then looks capable of getting into the 30s on both days. Probably Monday too, and Tuesday is in with a shout if the models are being a bit too progressive at the moment with the trough-plume interaction.

Four days would match my current record streak of 30*C +. Five would be the longest since at least July 1983, perhaps even June 1976!

So this is the third consecutive day with a temp over 30. With 3 more to come, that’ll be 6. Also looking like the next 3 days will exceed 90F, although tomorrow will be a close run thing. Monday and Tuesday look odds on though.

We need to wait for the Met Office stats overnight to see if we got higher than 29.4C. Gosport Fleetlands had an hourly max of 29.2C so may have exceeded the 29.4C at Thorney Island.

Not a bad day in Manchester today: 24.7C under fairly sunny skies. Just a shame it was a Saturday, as nice weather on Saturdays is useless to me...

The first week of Aug has turned out to be one of the best periods of this incredible summer here in the south.

Very warm, relentless sunshine and no oppressive heat or humidity.

It's like a different country.
