This morning started off with a lot of medium to high level cloud with the Sun struggling to be seen through that. That is now clearing away from the west with the Sun coming through a lot more, but a total of just 6 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's minimum overnight temperature was 14.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it was a much warmer night than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 15.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Yet another morning has just descended into yet another boring grey nothingness as the August permacast gets underway for another year. The result of this, is that the really disappointing total of just 42 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon. It is therefore clear, that this month is not going to be starting on the same sunny note which last month did.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 18.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, our weather has gone from bad to worse as it is now raining outside as I write.

So far as at 5pm this afternoon, just 42 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all since 11am this morning.

So far, 0.6 mm of rain has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon along with 1.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where today will now go down as an official rain day as a result.

Today's maximum temperature was 18.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 18°C at Edinburgh Airport and 18.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 15.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Drove from a warm sunny Nottingham (22 C) to a cool wet Edinburgh (16 C)

Nottingham set to get warmer and sunnier in the next few days, up to 28 C

Cloudy with light rain at times here for the next few days and maybe as high as 22 C

The rain from earlier on this evening has eased off a bit now but in the end, the rather abysmal total of just 42 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in the way of sunshine being recorded since 11am this morning.

A total of 1.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 10pm tonight along with 3.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as this month's first official rain day at both of those stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 16.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
