While we do have the overcast skies and the strong southerly wind (still can't get away from that even in high summer!), the rain really isn't amounting to much with a weedy 0.4 mm so far. In fact the wind is not even giving a chance for any kind of dampness to get into the soil. As our Jiries often like to say; it is useless and not acceptable.

This has now turned into a really wet and miserable afternoon here in Edinburgh with quite a bit of heavy rain, and with the temperatures refusing to rise during this afternoon.

So far today in just the last couple of hours up until 2pm this afternoon, 2.2 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 2.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that for the second day in succession, today will go down as another official rain day at both of those stations with quite a lot of rain still to come, according to what I am seeing on the latest radar maps.

Not only are the temperatures refusing to rise as well, but they have actually been dropping during this afternoon. Today's maximum temperature so far is 16.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.0ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Those maximum temperatures occurred at 12 noon, and are rather disappointing for this time of year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 2pm this afternoon was just 15.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and a rather cool 15.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Still light, steady rain here and 21c now. The radar shows a band of rain travelling North/East across the country from the Bristol Channel to the Humber Estuary and I’m right under it.  So is my garden.

Our permacast hell goes on as our summer continues to go down the toilet pan, with yet more constant grey skies. With the rain having eased off as well, today has now descended into yet another boring grey nothingness.

As at 5pm this afternoon, there was still a total of just 1.5 hours of sunshine recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in the way of sunshine, having been recorded there since 8am this morning.

Today's rainfall totals so far as at 5pm this afternoon was 4.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 5.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 15.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Plenty of rain this a.m. ( yeah! no watering tonight!!!) but it is still real hot out. It is as if the hills are pumping the heat out...which they may well , in a way, be doing seeing as it is a 1,000ft south facing hillside down the valley from Midgeley to Hebden in front of me?

We had another spell of heavy and almost torrential rain during this evening from the wrap-around occlusion which moved through here from the SW as the main area of low pressure has started to pull away. That rain lasted for almost an hour and once it cleared away, the skies then cleared a bit with more in the way of blue sky appearing, although there was still a lot of cloud around even then.

That was enough to produce the odd occasional sunny interval towards the end of the day but in the end, the rather dismal total of just 1.8 hours of sunshine was recorded for today in the end at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

This evening's band of rain has increased today's rainfall total so far as at 10pm tonight to 6.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 6.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. Since the clouds have melted away though to bring us into a clear night so far, those should now be the final rainfall totals for today.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 12.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
