Just had an email from TheBusinessDesk (Yorkshire) to tell me there's major rail disruption due to lightning strikes.

Yes, no trains north out of York or west toward Leeds apparently due to lightning strike causing signal box failure at York. Even worse, several barriers at rail crossings are stuck in the down position, so traffic problems too on some local roads.

Working today in Eastleigh, Hants. Just had a rain shower with a single rumble of thunder. 

We have rain here first in nearly 2 months looks like a huge storm developing to our south. still about 33c

looks like the drought will be over soon though the heavy stuff may miss to the west.

will be first recordable rain in nearly 2 months. Shame we couldn't get to the record

its stopped after a few blobs. I'm not sure if that counts as a drought breaker! probably more later though

There one over the channel seem to heading for us and going to say goodbye to the dryness as I don't think I will see 60 days without rain again especially to get 60 days in high summer season which is harder than Spring long dry days.

3mm of rain here in the last 20 mins or but the change in temperature is far more notable. In roughly the same time it dropped from 32.4C to 24.4C.  

Same here, though only 0.9mm has fallen and temperature from 31.8c to 26.4c in 15min.

Looks like a very nasty storm ongoing in North Norfolk.  I can actually see the edge of it clearly from here, around 50 miles away or more.

Here too. Max of the day was 28.4 at 2:50, now down to 22.

Drought officially over here torrential rain and lightning 

Hugely variable amounts of rain across the Aberdeen area last night with 4.2mm here, 10mm at Dyce, 1.8mm at Nigg and 2.2mm at Westhill.

1mm here so far today. It's just plain miserable with moderate rainfall and rumbles of thunder. Heaviest rain looks as though it passed to the east.
