Met Office going for 30% chance of UK all-time temperature record being broken on Friday. Much depends on any cloud overspill from storms that develop during the day.

For the past few days it’s been steady as she goes in Manchester then Kev!   Here’s hoping you get some of the forecast heat and sunshine to boost that figure!

This week will have had a couple of warm/hot days, a couple of ok mainly cloudy but very warm days and a couple of poor dull drizzly days with maybe a mixed explosive day on Friday. Not bad overall but I would like more sunny days going forward. I'd like at least 5 from each week all the way through August . I'm hoping after the wobble at the weekend, we can properly rejoin this summer and go out on a high in August.

Continuing into September because I'm away in Center Parcs in the Lakes in September! I'll cross that bridge when I come to it though.

I woke up last night around 4am with cold legs (windows open, ceiling fan whirling). Pulling the summer quilt over them and snuggling in was a long-forgotten pleasure. It was absolute bliss.

Back to the sweltering sleeps for the next couple of nights before another cool-down

What a beautiful evening! A rising full moon through deep twilight, a light gentle breeze and still 24°C at this time. These are just the summer evenings I love!

A series of thunderstorms without the breakdown into cool westerlies... and the rain evaporating into steam just above the roads after the sun came back out. The beautiful sight of huge anvils lit into fire by a setting sun. That's a good summer's day.

A cooler few days with us now, but I'm not too bothered to be honest. A short cool spell after a heat wave can be quite welcome just to even things out a bit... as long as it doesn't start outstaying its welcome!

As for the medium-term, I hope the charts for early August come off and we get a nice spell of sunshine and mid-20s. Who could moan at that?

Actually it's rather pleasant out there at the moment. OK, I prefer the heat but the breeze is refreshing and there is some sun at times as well. If I dodge most of the showers (unlikely) today would have no complaints from me.

I wonder if in years to come this spell will be seen as 2018's equivalent of the mid-July unsettled spell in 1976.

Autumnal today - cool, damp and very blustery.

It's going to be like this tomorrow, too.

One bright spot is that tomorrow our arsehole neighbours are having a big party for her 50th. I hope it's a complete washout.
