Here in Edinburgh, we haven't been able to match or beat Richard's total of 12+ hours of sunshine up in Aberdeen. However, a mostly sunny evening has resulted in a total of 11.3 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is enough to make today, our sunniest day since 7 July 2018 which was 18 days (or two and a half weeks) ago.
As far as sunshine totals are concerned, today was quite an eventful day for the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. For that particular station, it will be a while before I have today's sunshine total, but I do now have all of the sunshine totals for this month so far up until and including yesterday at the botanic gardens.
This data shows that going into today, the total for this month so far was just 2.5 hours of sunshine short of the 1981-2010 July average for that station. Since today was a mostly sunny day, we can now safely say that this month will now go down as being a sunnier than average month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as today's total is bound to take this month's total so far, to more than the 1981-2010 July average for that station.
For Edinburgh Gogarbank though, just a further 8.5 or more hours of sunshine are needed between now and the end of this month, for this month to officially go down as a sunnier than average month at that station.
Now that the Sun has gone down, the temperature is dropping away under clear skies and so, the temperature at 10pm tonight was 17.3ÂșC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ÂșC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.1ÂșC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
