Living on the coast line does come with it's own saving grace with the current 20.4 C, even though it is still full sunshine in a virtually cloudless sky along with the 85% H giving a DP of 18 C. It's just the south west breeze in from the Channel that is providing some relief, although it is still like a blast furnace inside the west-facing part of my house with 32 C in my famed west-facing hobby room.

Yet another poor day. Hugely disappointing like nothing I have ever known here before with a max of 25.7C but very little sunshine.

Was best first thing in the morning when there was a fair bit of blue sky to enjoy breakfast outside but hardly any sun in the afternoon and horrible gloomy overcast at the moment despite still being 21.0C.

This is really ruining what was heading towards being a memorable summer

Sunny and much drier air now with 27.8C temps after it maxed at 34.6 despite it battled against the clouds shade interruption earlier on.

I can report that I am now back in Edinburgh after my week in the Scottish Borders.

This morning was a bit sunnier in Hawick than what I had expected but it was slightly cooler there, than what it was here in Edinburgh in that time (I had read in another thread, a post from a member in response to something which Jerry had said there, which confirmed that the temperature in Edinburgh was 20.3ºC at a very early stage of this morning) although it was still very warm in Hawick as well.

It was very warm when I arrived back in Edinburgh, but it was a bit cloudier than what it was when I left Hawick. Upon catching up up with all of the Edinburgh data, I therefore wasn't surprised to see some very disappointing sunshine totals being recorded during the last week at both Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which included a completely sunless day at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh last Thursday (that was only the first and to date, only sunless day of this month so far at any of my three local stations).

That disappointing theme has continued today as well, as a total of just 2.0 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm this evening.

Today's maximum temperature was 23.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 24ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.0ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7pm this evening was 22.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 23ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 23.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

So to be on topic currently 23.1C after a max of 27.4C. Reasonably clear skies now but it has been been quite cloudy at times for much of the day, only really clearing to any great extent by late afternoon.

Evening

A torrid day at work today at West Malling with an afternoon temperature of 32c (90f). No fun being stuck in an office with no air con or ventilation.

At home the heat appears to have been tempered by a coastal sea breeze that capped the max to just 25.6c.

Currently clear and 20.9c / RH 83%.

When I experienced the rain down in Hawick last Monday night, I discovered that Edinburgh had missed out on that. This has resulted in the last week's total rainfall being a bit higher down in Hawick than it was at both of my usual Edinburgh Stations. That in turn has led to this month;s total rainfall down there being slightly higher so far than what it is up here and when I first arrived back in Edinburgh this afternoon, I noticed that this has also resulted in the grass being slightly yellower and browner here in Edinburgh, than it is down in Hawick.

The skies that had been partially cloudy and a bit oppressive all day cleared quite suddenly around 6pm here leaving an absolutely beautiful, if rather hot, evening.

Feels less stuffy now just because the sky is bigger.

Rather incredibly, 5 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank in just one single hour between 8pm and 9pm this evening which is enough in itself to not only make today an official rain day at that station and make today the wettest day of the month so far there, but also to actually more than double the entire month's total in just that one single hour at that particular station.

Furthermore, it's still raining just now so it's going to be really interesting to see what those final totals come out as.

9.25pm and it's 25C outside with not a breath of wind. Every window in the house open, fans going and no room is less than 28C.

[edit] Just to add to the fun, the humidity is rising rapidly.
