Yet another cloudy night as we continue to remain firmly within the grip of the annual July permacast in this part of the world.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 14.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Grey and overcast, almost windless. This summer must be close to a record for days starting grey with North Sea cloud and brightening up later.

Here in Edinburgh, the annual July permacast goes on as today has started off on another depressing and soul destroying note with yet more constant grey skies, resulting in nothing at all in way of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 14.2ºC Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that it was quite a muggy night which was also a bit warmer than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 15.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Dull and cool. More like a normal summer's day!

A lot of non convective rain indicated on the radar just west of here. No mention of it on 5 Live weather this morning though. Seems to be on its way.

Fair and bright with sunny spells and partial cloud. A very comfortable 21 C & 70% H with a moderate east breeze.

However, it's now so dry that my cotoneaster hedge has stopped growing (not needed trimming in a month), it's as if it has gone into winter hibernation.

For a while, it had looked as though normal service for this month was being resumed once again as the Sun broke through with the temperature shooting up a bit as well. So far, this has resulted in 1.2 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

However, some more convective clouds have now built up and it is starting to look a bit dark just to the SW of here and a result of that, the temperatures are refusing to rise any further just now.

Meanwhile, the temperature as at 12 noon was 19.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 18.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It has been raining here in Edinburgh for a while, but the worst of this weather looks as though it is missing us to the east and south. As a result of that, just 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded from that so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 2pm this afternoon with nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Since we need more than 0.2 mm of rain on any given day to officially end a drought, this means that our drought is technically speaking, not over yet at either of those two stations.
