I knew that I was going to be later than normal with opening this thread because as it was coming up to the time for doing so, I was just too tired to stay up for any longer and so, I had no option other, than to just go to bed.

Anyway, it is nice to have been celebrating a football result for once (as was the case with Croatia's fantastic victory over England in the World Cup) instead of drowning my sorrows. I did say on the World Cup thread on the sports forum that I was having nothing more to do with that, and have continued to stick to that promise. However, that doesn't mean that I can't celebrate anyway.

Anyway, I will apologise for going off topic here and won't say anything else on that subject from now on. I will therefore carry on by saying that the weather is overcast here in Edinburgh once again for what is now, the fourth night in a row.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 2am this morning was 12.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 13.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, it's mostly cloudy. There was some sunny spells for a while, but that didn't last for long and we're mostly in yet another grey and overcast nothingness.

Rather frustratingly, the data from weathercast.co.uk just isn't coming in quickly enough for me to be able to report it and as a result of that, I can't even report the latest sunshine totals for Edinburgh Gogarbank. This is the 21st century after all and in in this age of digital technology, there should be no excuses for that data not being available at our fingertips as and when we need it.

What I can say though is that today is day 22 of the current official absolute drought at Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, and yet another where there is very little chance of us actually getting that much badly needed rainfall in this part of the world. There is a better chance of us getting some rain tomorrow from some showers, but even that is only a small chance.

With such a lack of available data at my disposal just now, all that I can say is that the temperature is probably around 16ÂșC just now.

With the data from weathercast.co.uk now finally up to date for once, I can now give a much better report than the last one, and a proper one at that.

The weather hasn't changed during the last hour as this year's July permacast has re-commenced and brought us yet more constant grey skies, but I can now report that a total of 1.7 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9am this morning, albeit with nothing at all during the last hour.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 10.6ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 12.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There was quite a big jump in the temperature when the Sun was out earlier on but now that it has clouded over again, the temperatures are refusing to rise any further just now, and have actually dropped back a bit during the last hour.

This means that the temperature at 9am this morning was 16.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 16.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Rather overcast but staying bone dry. Can't see it rising any higher from the current 18.2 C & 77% H if the truth be told. The only thing keeping things feeling warm are winds being slack.

Here in Edinburgh, the July permacast goes on with yet more constant grey skies since my last report. This means that as at 12 noon, there is still only that same 1.7 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as was the case in my last report, with nothing at all in that department since 8am this morning.

At the same time, the temperature is still refusing to go up and I'm getting a bit tired now, of not being able that data from weathercast.co.uk in time to be able to report that properly, and which should have been available by now. This means that once again, I'm stuck with only being able to say that the temperature is probably around 17ºC, and I'm getting a bit fed up with that as I have too much to do with my life, and just have the time to keep hanging around waiting for that data to update.

No real change from my last report. This afternoon has just been a continuation of the same old depressing grey and overcast nothingness which we have been in for most of today as our permacast hell goes on. This means that just 1.7 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon with nothing at all in the way of any recorded sunshine since 8am this morning.

Today's maximum temperature was 18.4ÂșC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ÂșC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 17.3ÂșC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This makes today our second coolest day of this month so far and brings to an end, that really remarkable record for this part of the world, of 9 days in a row where the maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was always at or above 20ÂșC. Furthermore, this is only the second day of this month where the temperature has failed to reach 20ÂșC at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, this also shows what happens when the temperature refuses to rise during the day when I want it to, as today's maximum temperatures in the end, weren't all that much different fro what the temperature was at around 8am this morning.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 18.0ÂșC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ÂșC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.0ÂșC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The clouds eventually broke up a bit to allow some late evening sunshine which in the end, resulted in a total of 2.7 hours of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Nevertheless, that is still a very disappointing total for this time of year which is made even more so, by the fact that this morning had actually got off to such a promising note up until about 8am.

If from now on you see me quote just one single temperature as a rough value rather than the usual detailed stuff for all of my three stations, this will be because all of the data for all of my three stations hasn't come through quickly enough for me to be able to report them. In that scenario, I will then give a rough estimate of the current average temperature across all of my three local stations based on whatever data I have.

Having refreshed that data page on numerous occasions on the appropriate data and even clearing the browser cache in order to force to complete refresh, I can confirm that this is the case this time, so I can only say the temperature just now is roughly about 15ÂșC as at 10pm tonight.
