The clouds have now started to break up a bit more and allow more in the way of sunshine to come through. For now though, sunshine totals remain very disappointing with just 1.1 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

After such a warm start to the day, the temperatures haven't really been rising all that quickly during today whilst it has been cloudy. However, those temperatures have now started to get a little bit of a boost with the Sun coming out.

As a result of that, the temperature at 12 noon was 22.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 22.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A maximum of 30.1C here. I've had an AWS in place since 2003, not once has it reached 29C until today, let alone 30C. For 1000ft up on Dartmoor, a seriously warm day - and there's a breeze too.

Currently 29.1c with a few clouds occasionally shading the sun. Very welcome today too as it’s our annual carnival and a few thousand people will be on the park with very little shelter.

Some scattered clouds but long sunny spells.

Temp 27.5C after a high of 29.7C earlier.

( We were at the Avro Heritage Centre Air Fair at Woodford earlier, we were sweltering in the heat but it was worth it to see the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane fly over in formation. They did three circuits of the airfield. Fantastic! )

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

This afternoon hasn't been completely sunny, but it has been much sunnier during this afternoon than what it was this morning with a total of 5.0 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

It is fairly windy as well but unlike on most other days during this summer, this isn't a wind which is coming in from off the North Sea. In this case, the wind is coming from virtually, the exact opposite direction from where it has been coming from on those other occasions and if anything, that is actually making it feel a bit hotter still to the extent that I'm surprised that it's not actually hotter in this part of the world than what it is just now.

However, the temperature hasn't yet peaked for today and it is already more than warm enough for my liking. As at 5pm this afternoon, the temperature was 23.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 23ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where today will once again, go down as the warmest day of this month so far as a result.

27.3c and mostly clear.

High of 28.2c today .

Just driven back from York and unusually the highest temp on the way back was here (normally its lowest here), must have been lucky with the cloud breaks.

very warm & sunny still with temps still hovering just under 29C - it's been a very hot day... Though nothing especially humid still, and on that note this heat wave really hasn't produced much in the way of really humid weather. For the most part dew points have only been in the mid teens.

Even though it is 18 C outside, there is a modicum of freshness to things on account of the 69% H keeping the DP at 12 C with a north east breeze.

This evening started off on a sunny note and at one point in time, it had looked as though we were going to end up with yet another completely sunny evening. That lasted for a couple of hours after my last report on this thread but then, the clouds moved in again and in the end, a total of just 7.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Whilst that doesn't look all that bad on paper (that did include two completely sunny hours during this evening after all, and it did feel really warm in that sunshine today), this was still disappointing enough to make today, the second dullest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. The fact that this is the case though is not down to it being particularly dull as would normally be the case, but is instead just down to the incredibly high standards for our sunshine totals which have been set during this month so far.

As I said a while ago though, today has been very warm yet again with a maximum temperature of 23.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 24ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This makes today, the warmest day of this month so far yet again at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, the joint warmest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Airport and the second warmest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

For most of this evening, it has continued to feel very warm and humid, but there has been quite a big drop in the temperature over the last hour or so. That has happened as the wind direction has changed yet again. Given how this summer has gone so far, you can probably already guess where the wind is coming from now. Yes, it looks as though those easterlies are back and when I looked outside, I even seen a little bit of that easterly muck starting to come in from off the North Sea and when that happens, there will usually always be another permacast hell to start the following day with.

With all of that in mind, the temperature at 10pm tonight was now down to 17.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 15.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which means that it already cooler than what it was at any time during last night and with that change in wind direction, tomorrow isn't likely to be as warm as today wither even if the Sun breaks through during the day.
